Well, I think I can say unequivocally there is no reason for me to pay for Apple TV+. Last night I watched my second movie on it for review, the Tom Hanks starring Greyhound, which I was somewhat startled to discover had actually been available there since July. But, just like the previous movie I watched for review on the service, it got a solid B. Which is, you know, fine. But is it worth yet another monthly $4.99 subscription? That would be a no. And there's not a single original series they have to offer that I'm even all that interested in checking out.

I really only signed up for the Apple TV+ seven-day trial so that I could review Sofia Coppola's On the Rocks. I figured I should review at least one other movie that went straight to the service instead of to theaters, before the week is up. I actually have time to watch one more, but I don't even know what else it has that’s begging for that kind of attention.

So anyway, I burned through an hour and a half watching that movie very shortly after ending my work day yesterday. Then I spent maybe forty minutes or so writing the review. It was just past 7 p.m. when I posted the link to the review to social media, and then I kind of just wasted time on Twitter until Shobhit got home.

That was when he got to see what I had brought home for his birthday: a cake I had gotten from Bakery Nouveau yesterday during my lunch break.

His birthday is today, you see. He's 47 years old now. But, as I love to point out every year, he was born in India, which means he really turned 47 last night, due to the time difference. And actually, I thought about hiding the cake and revealing it today, but then decided letting him see it last night was perfectly appropriate for this very reason.

I think maybe he had hoped for German Chocolate. That was his first guess, and when I told him it was a carrot cake—which I could have sworn he likes—his reaction was just kind of like, "Hmm." And actually I might have gotten a chocolate cake, but their selection was somewhat limited, and the only small chocolate cake they had was Halloween themed, with little ghosts on it. I didn't want his birthday cake to be a Halloween cake.

The guy did say he might have two more in the back, and he said they were probably carrot cake or mocha chocolate. I was like, "Perfect! Please check." And had they not had the carrot, I would have gotten the mocha chocolate and then just not eaten any of it myself (because I hate coffee). But, they had the carrot, so I chose that one. I thought they did the Happy Birthday Shobhit writing beautifully, and I was glad to see them get his name right, even after the guy had written it down in front of my eyes. You still just never know.

Shobhit still elected to wait until this morning to cut the cake for a picture, I think mostly because he was already changing out of work clothes and into shorts with no shirt on last night and he wanted to be better dressed for the photo. But, he also did not want to wait until after work today because by then his birthday would be over in India—even though it will clearly still be his birthday here. So, that's how I got the photos of him cutting the cake this morning, just before he left for work and I started my work day.

Lastly, our "Halloween Happy Hour 1/2" on Zoom is this afternoon, starting at 3:30. After standing in line for some time before getting into Bakery Nouveau—they were only letting four customers inside at a time—I went quickly across the street to Safeway (think about how I was pretty sure I had not gone into that store since before the pandemic hit) to get hair pins and barrettes, which I will need for my costume. I think I'm all set now, and I even have a great Zoom virtual background to use. I really hope lots of others incorporate virtual backgrounds into their costumes too, and I look forward to seeing them.

We'll also vote on the pumpkin carving competition—more photos of my entry being what all today's DLU photos are of. If this doesn't win I'm going to demand a recount!
