And now, apparently, we wait. What an insane election. And truly, there won't be any real relief, as I already said, until Biden is actually sworn in as President in January.

Biden's lead in Arizona is slowly narrowing, which makes me nervous—but, I still take comfort in the likelihood that he'll remain ahead, however barely, in the end. We remain at a point where if Biden's current leads hold, he wins. And we're looking at the very real possibility that Biden will actually overtake Trump's razor-thin lead in Georgia, or Pennsylvania, or even both. And Biden only needs to win one of those three states at this point.

It's just frustrating having to wait for any official call on these states at this point. I sure hope one of them is called by the end of the day today. And the truly sad part of it is, if we had more sane and decent people in this country, it would never be so close a race to be having to deal with this shit to begin with. And here we have our own president doing everything he can to stop the counting of ballots that actually were sent in by election day. Not only that, but if all counting were stopped right now, Biden would win! Trump and his supporters are such jaw dropping morons.

And in what universe would our Supreme Court intervene and just pick and choose certain states to stop counting but not others? Shobhit insists he wouldn't put it past them, thanks to the Court's now-6-3 conservative majority, but I honestly have more faith in even this Court than that. That level of partisan inconsistency would be outright insanity—then again, that level of partisan inconsistency has already been employed by the likes of both Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham (both of whom, unbelievably, were re-elected!). So, who the fuck knows. And Trump's widely expected legal challenges appear to be mostly inconsequential, so far, anyway.

All that said, given the truly stark divide in this country, I fear that the Biden presidency will be not much more than a four-year, semi-break from this insanity. On the other hand, so long as it isn't a Trump repeat in 2024 (and I do mean that literally: he's already speculated about running again at that time, assuming he doesn't finally drop dead by then), even a Republican victory might make me think, At least it's not Donald Trump. Of course, there are countless variables that could affect what the nation looks like in another four years, including—however unlikely—more people warming to Biden after he has some experience on the job.

I just still can't wrap my brain around the half of this country who thinks more of what we've had these past four years would actually be good for everybody. Actually, I don't think they even think that. They're delighted that it would mean these years are far worse for the people who don't agree with or think like them, and it's that vindictiveness and pettiness that informs their vote. I think Trump's shameless bigotry, contempt and sadism actually turns out the Republican vote in ways no other more conventional Republican nominee possibly could. I mean, the bigotry was always there, but it was too subtle for the biggest dipshits to catch. Trump catches more with his far broader net of hatred.

Biden's narrow lead, in the simplest terms, is thanks to merely having slightly higher turnout.

Anyway. Shobhit and I did watch a bit of TV last night. Or more accurately, he went along with me choosing a couple of things to watch. We first went with the second episode of The Undoing, about halfway through with Shobhit announcing it was "boring" before then positing a wild theory about it; then we watched the first episode of The Queen's Gambit, the miniseries that is currently all the rage and #1 on Netflix. I did like the latter better and look forward to watching more. I did just realize while writing this very paragraph, though, that we still haven't watched last Sunday's episode of Fargo.

Shobhit wanted to get back to the incessant news coverage of the election after that, which was fine, really. I washed some dishes and then got ready for bed. As expected, I slept like a baby—which was nice. I actually ended the day slightly more worried than I started it, thanks to Biden's narrowing lead in Arizona, but in the end I have chosen not to worry too much about it. I know what the likely end result will be. It would just be nice to get some closure just from an announcement of an electoral vote winner. Even with Trump already doing everything within his power to somehow nullify the results, but thankfully—as of this moment, at least—in this instance his powers are actually pretty limited. Which I know he hates, but who cares?
