Tue, 5:48: People who behave as though the only decent way to be is to have some measure of self loathing: go fuck yourselves!
Tue, 7:52: 1. Only one of these ten best movies I saw in 2020, did I manage to see in a movie theater.
2. The other 9 I saw just since September, upon my return to movie reviewing after an unprecedented six-month hiatus, when films originally scheduled for theatrical release began to pivot to streaming and VOD releases, prompting my return to reviewing.
3. I still have not seen a movie in a theater since February, and I'm not sure there has been anything I've missed more in 2020.
4. As with many, many things this year, film releases and availability have been off kilter in a way never before experienced. But! Truthfully, bumping nearly all the tent pole / blockbusters off the slate this year allowed for the discovery of a lot of great works that would not have gotten the same attention otherwise.
5. This list usually accounts for about 8 or 9 percent of the total number of movies I went to see in a typical year. Given that I only managed to write roughly half the number of reviews I usually do, this list accounts for about double the percentage, about 18%, of the movies I reviewed this year (56). But that does not make them any less excellent! All of these movies come *very* highly recommended. It was actually still a very good year for movies.
