CoronaQuarantine, Day 36
Day 36. You know what that means? This is the first day of week six of "CoronaQuarantine." And, I will bet money there will be plenty more weeks to come. Hell, maybe even another six. Or more. Ugh.
I actually killed time during the three hours between stopping work yesterday and Shobhit getting home from work pretty efficiently, so it went by quickly: I made grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup for dinner, both cooking and eating while watching a Netflix comedy special. Then I killed more than an hour taking pictures of my stock of saved family calendars, so I could finally create a Flickr photo album that serves a visual history of all the calendar themes. I did not have a physical copy of every calendar made for every year, as for a few years I only made "Shobhit & Matthew" calendars for keeping at home, and a few years I only kept a copy of the version of a calendar made for Dad's side of the family to keep for myself, but not the one made for Mom's side. (For instance, I never kept a copy for myself of the "Wallace, Idaho" 2017 calendar I made for her and Bill, and for Uncle David and Mary Ann, although it was really quite nice.) The next time I visit them, I should find out if they saved those few calendars I don't have images of, so I can get a photo to add to this album.
For now, though, for about seven of the calendars, I added photos of people on Christmas Day at Dad and Sherri's house, just looking at certain versions of calendars that I did not keep for myself. (In the case of the "Pets 2009" calendar, for instance, that one I kept the Mom-side version for myself, since those pets on average had more meaning to me; next to it in the album is a photo of Angel and Sherri looking at the different, Dad-and-Sherri-side version of the calendar, which had featured pets owned by Dad and Sherri and their descendants over the years.)
I haven't done this part yet, but will have plenty of time to work on it over the weekend: I will add captions to these photos, with links to the tag on all the photos used for the calendar that year. As in, once a link is clicked, it will go to a page of just that year's calendar photos.
This is the kind of thing I might have done a long time ago, had I thought to make the time. Now I've got lots of time, especially on weekends.
Today is Sherri's birthday. We're going to do a Zoom meetup at 5:00 to commemorate it; Tristen had asked in the Facebook group whether we were doing one on Wednesday, as we had done the previous two Wednesdays. But, Gina and Beth, who are the ones with a paid Zoom account that therefore removes the time limits, had apparently planned on going on a bike ride that afternoon. It had been their idea to do this weekly, but I think maybe I set some people's idea of a schedule off kilter by requesting we do another one last Sunday for Easter. By Wednesday, it was only three days later. Granted, Sunday was only four days after the previous Wednesday but whatever.
I suggested we do this week's today since it's Sherri's birthday. I nearly forgot to make her birthday card, which was dumb because I had plenty of time. But, I totally spaced it on Tuesday evening when I should have been making it, and Shobhit and I were watching The Matrix. I still made one Wednesday morning so I could get it out in the usual two-day lead time to make it arrive at Dad and Sherri's house by today. Of course, that was the expectation under business as usual, and the world is anything but at the moment—particularly with the United States Postal Service in such a fragile state. So, I guess I'll find out this evening whether she actually got her card in the mail today. I got it in the mail on time, at least! I even made it on Wednesday morning when I was supposed to be working. Don't tell anyone. I did a pretty simple design with black ink on paper though, so it did not take me long. It's one of my least impressive ones, really. But at least I did it, and I still haven't forgotten to send her a card.
This is the first of several birthdays this month for notable people in my life, all of whom will have to celebrate under this seemingly endless stay-at-home order. Sherri turns 68 today. Gabriel turns 43 on Sunday. I turn 44 a week from Thursday. Or, in one day less than two weeks.
It all sucks. But, things could be way rose. Gratitude! Work was sort of a mess this morning, in a very similar way to last Monday. It's the weekend again so I am having another cocktail as soon as I stop working at 4:30. Maybe hot chocolate with rum in it. Mmm-mm, one of my favorites. It's good to have things to look forward to.
