CoronaQuarantine, Day 40
Short post today! We're sort of getting back into the swing of things in terms of how I do this, even though I spend the vast majority of my time at home. Still, it was pretty typical for me to write about a pretty eventful weekend on a Monday (yesterday), thereby leaving me not nearly as much to tell you about today.
I guess there is this I can tell you about: While I was working yesterday, focused entirely on my work laptop and with my iMac desktop computer "sleeping" all day, for reasons no one can tell me, when I got back onto my computer after work and looked at my Music (formerly iTunes) app, not only did it appear as though none of my iTunes-purchased music was downloaded anymore, but 1) none of my ripped tracks from all the CDs I owned prior to getting an iPod in 2006 were visible at all; and 2) far more distressing, all of my playlists disappeared. What the fuck?
So, a whole lot of my time after work yesterday but before Shobhit got back from work was spent on the phone with Apple Care, and a lady ultimately attempting to help me sync the playlists still intact on my phone back to my computer. Instead, it synced the opposite direction and all of my playlists disappeared from my phone as well! I had disconnected with the support agent because the syncing process was taking so long, and it was after their hours of operation at this point, which apparently ended at 8 p.m. Central Time. Also, I even had to disconnect the phone before it was finished syncing (the wrong way anyway), as I had to go downstairs and get into the car with Shobhit so we could drive to Mayuri Foods, the Indian grocery store in Bellevue.
I'll get back to that.
Now, after at least two hours on the phone with support agents that transferred me enough times I spoke to three separate people this morning alone, I have finally gone a big step in the right direction: a got an iTunes library loaded back into the Music app which actually did restore my playlists to probably 85% of what they should be. Getting even this far took ages. The problem is, it's only updated as recent as 2016. That won't do. I mean, it's better than nothing. But hopefully we can find a more recent iTunes library to import. And in fact, I am running a process at this very moment, just hoping for no further errors, that should update it to as recent as February of this year. And that, at this point and after all that bullshit, is something I would be thrilled to settle for.
As for yesterday, the face masks I ordered from Amazon are finally telling me they are to be delivered on Thursday, as opposed to the previous estimate of "between April 19 and May 4." I told Shobhit it was making me increasingly uncomfortable to go grocery shopping without a mask, though, and somewhat to my surprise, he came home yesterday with one from work for me to use. I felt a lot better; Shobhit had one of his own to wear, so we both wore face masks at Mayuri Foods, the Indian grocery store in Bellevue he likes to go to every few months. And this was a big shop; we came home with five tote bags full of groceries (which we had to fill ourselves outside the store—stores are not currently allowing people's reusable totes inside) and I spent $168. I also found four of the Tandoor Chef Eggplan Naan pizzas, my favorite! They didn't even place a limit on how many we could buy, and so we cleaned them out of their inventory (which was the four pizzas). We also got a ton of produce and a ton of different Indian style cookies, so we'll be set for cookies with chai for months to come.
After that, we went over to Chaat House, where we often have eaten a nice Indian dinner in the past when shopping in the area. Currently they were doing only takeout, as all restaurants are only allowed to do these days, so we ordered to go. Shobhit was bummed that he doesn't get a Social Review point for this; he would have had we been able to dine in. But, the way things are, no part of this was "socializing," it was just running an errand and picking up takeout. Which we then took home and had for dinner. And it was delicious! We ate while watching The Simpsons, which this week was impressively topical: the part where we usually see Bart writing something over and over on a chalkboard had nothing repeated and only one sentence: SCHOOL ONLINE.
Anyway. Now that I have a mask in hand that will last at least a couple of days, I did indeed make plans to walk with Alexia after work today, to my office and back. We'll maintain a wide distance between us and both of us will have masks; I had even suggested we wear earpieces to speak via phone if we have to. That may prove difficult with the masks and how people can never hear me with my phone in my pocket, but we'll see if we can't figure something out.
