CoronaQuarantine, Day 70

This week is just . . . well, it's not my favorite. I'm still counting my blessings! There are millions of people around the world and in my own country—and hundreds of thousands in my own state—who are way worse off than me. So maybe it's a little tone deaf for me to complain about the job I actually still have, with no cuts in pay or hours. I mean, having anything to complain about is just a reflection of how fortunate I am.

But I'm going to complain anyway. I'll just be grateful when it's the weekend again. And! That Monday is Memorial Day, during which still no one can travel, or even have a big barbeque, neither of which I was likely to be doing anyway, but I suppose under normal circumstances I might have spent time with one friend or another. But whatever, I'll have the day off and I'm looking forward to that.

In the meantime, this week has been a challenge, just to get a lot of stuff done that either has to get done this week or would better have been done last week and I just can't do it all at the same time. I was actually looking forward to one particular thing tomorrow, which is our all-office-staff "Town Hall" meeting, for the second time being conducted virtually via Zoom; I'm going to use a photo of the view from the office patio/balcony as my virtual background, which I think will be fun.

Buuuut, this morning Darrell just went ahead and scheduled our next all-Merchandising meeting, for the same day. Can we not do these on separate days? This feels like a bit much. So we have the Office Staff Town Hall scheduled from 11:30 to 12:15, which will likely go until at least 12:30; I'll then take my lunch half an hour later than usual; I'll have half an hour to get more work done and then we have our Merchandising-specific Zoom meeting scheduled for between 1 and 2:00 in the afternoon. Being Friday, I'll need to do the Friday UNFI invoice compare report and my second stack of back door receiving paperwork for the week . . . and this will leave me time to work on virtually nothing else.

At least I have no other major promotion schedule deadlines to hit next week, and getting a day off won't matter too much. I have had a shit ton left on the back burner now since before going to Australia, though, so God knows when I will feel truly caught up again.

I have already confirmed with Alexia that she'll walk with me to my office and back after work tomorrow though, so at least I have that to look forward to, as a start of the long weekend.

Last night, Shobhit and I made grilled cheese sandwiches to have with sambar-as-soup, with a bit of water added. The sandwich in particular was quite tasty.

And then we just spent the entire evening watching either a movie or TV. First was the Netflix documentary Circus of Books, about a conventional Jewish family that happened to run a gay porn shop in L.A. for thirty years, and I highly recommend it, fascinating (and often funny) stuff. Then, the season finale of Netflix's Hollywood, which, even though I liked a lot of the show prior to this episode, I wasn't the biggest fan of. Then, after starting the second episode of Upload on Amazon Prime and then seeing the trailer for Hunters, Shobhit suggested we check that out instead, and so we did, even though the series premiere was ninety minutes. Shobhit literally declared "Eh"—several times—when it was done, even though he still said he would keep watching it; I think I liked it a bit more than he did. I was impressed by Al Pacino's performance as a Jewish survivor of Auschwitz, and I already think his performance here is way better than whatever the hell he was doing in The Irishman.

Then we did the Washington Post crossword puzzle together before I went to bed. He's gotten back into doing those a lot.
