And then report Officer Jared Campbell, Badge #8470 [the badge number is mis-communicated in one of those videos; 8470 is confirmed here: https://spdblotter.seattle.gov/2019/08/23/spd-community-snapshots/, and here: https://twitter.com/finelinefilter/status/1266877070472122368/photo/1]

He reportedly maced a 10-year-old girl during last night's downtown Seattle protests. Currently the likely most effective way to report this is at the Office of Police Accountability's Online Complain form, here: https://www.seattle.gov/opa/complaints/file-a-complaint/online-complaint-form.

You can also call (206) 684-8797, but apparently (and predictably) the mail box may be full when you call.

The incident occurred at around 4:30, Saturday May 30, on the corner of Pine & 5th, near Westlake Center. (These are details asked for in the online complaint form.)

It should be noted that a) the spraying incident itself was not caught on video, only the moments immediately after; and b) I did not witness the incident myself, both of which are arguably relevant.

Arguably even more relevant, however, is how the videos show plainly that police badge numbers were taped over. That's some absolute bullshit right there, and as far as I'm concerned is grounds for lodging a complaint on its own. I still think Officer Jared Campbell should be reported, far and wide, based both on what was widely reported regarding his actions and what is in those videos. The man should at minimum be investigated.

I am very concerned about how easy it is to distort truth in times like these and have been very careful about what information about this I could find to corroborate or verify details. I did not want to just share someone else's shared post or retweet. I have lodged an official complaint and I hope you will too.

P.S. I have seen a stunning amount of online backlash to this video with people coming in only to say "Why did that kids parents bring her to begin with?" And I would just like to say: STFU with that bullshit. There's a name for that, and it's called victim blaming. It doesn't matter why her parents brought her to what had for several hours been a peaceful protest because IT ISN'T RELEVANT. In what world is there ANY justification for the police pepper spraying a 10-year-old? There is no such fucking world.
  • Sun, 14:07: Cleanup in downtown Seattle this morning.

Note: It’s nice that so many helped out so quickly, but it’s not enough. Fighting systemic racism needs to be more proactive than reactive. You know that oft-quotes phrase, “Find the helpers”? Find the people working to *prevent* catastrophe—and injustice—and, maybe, join them. https://t.co/y75popXUh9
  • Sun, 17:01: Walking through downtown this morning and looking at all the graffiti from the protests, I found myself having to look up the meaning of "#ACAB." Turns out that stands for "All C*ps Are B*****ds." [I only censor that for fear of getting social media accounts suspended for it.]

I won't go so far as to say I agree with that statement. But, after what we've seen lately (and before that, and in years before that, and...), it's kind of hard not to. Frankly the most charitable thing I will say about police departments all across this country is that they are a disappointment.
  • Sun, 19:00: Demonstrators at the East Precinct Police Station, as seen from my condo & building roof. chant for a bit, then moved on, further north on 15th Avenue. Apparently due to curfew barring them from downtown, where they blocked access. #seattleprotest https://t.co/bnpB6nBH70
