Wed, 12:17: If the past few days have taught me one thing I did not realize before, it's that police departments all across this country don't need reform . . . they need to be dismantled.
How many of you had any idea that the police as they exist as an institution today has roots in American slave patrols? I did not, and it's shameful and embarrassing to admit. To think that any single police department today is completely free of the insidious influence of such dark beginnings is willfully ignorant at worst, and naive at best.
It's not hard to find information about this online. I still made it a point to find it in a mainstream publication so no one could accuse me of using some kind of "fringe source." TIME magazine is about as mainstream as it gets, and this article is from three years ago.
