turning down the heat
Not a lot to report today . . . I haven't even left the condo for a single reason since Sunday, as I didn't even check the mail yesterday. I might have, but I didn't think about it; Shobhit brought it up when he got home from work at about 6:30. I had spent the previous two hours writing captions on my backlog of caption-less photos on Flickr (I've reached Pride Weekend, which I believe I already captioned all of, so it's just a lot of tabbing through all of those), and then Shobhit and I fried up some parathas to have with some easily-heated Indian meal packets. We didn't add a whole lot of extras to these, just some chopped onion. The only thing that really took any time was Shobhit mixing up the dough, stuffing the flattened bread with leftover potato mix that had still been in the refrigerator, and frying up the aloo [potato] parathas.
They were delicious, I ate too much of it, and I am right back up to 160.6 lbs. Fuck me sideways! I'm not blaming Shobhit for that, though. I've really got to learn to get back into consistently smaller portions with my meals.
So. This morning Shobhit took a 2-for-1 coupon to Mighty-O Doughnuts and brought me back an Old Fashioned Glazed . . . at my request. I'm well on my way!
Anyway. We then watched most of the first night of the Democractic National Convention, which was done virtually, and as such rather struck me in that it had a very similar feel to all the virtual events done for Pride Weekend. I never expected two disparate things like Pride and the DNC to have a similar vibe.
I simply must mention, though, what ended the night's events: Michelle Obama's incredible speech, which really should be watched if you haven't seen it. As I said last night, she said what everyone in the country needs to hear right now. Seriously, if you haven't seen it, watch it. She mentions at one point how President Fuckwit (she did not use that word, for the record) "cannot meet this moment," but that's certainly what she did for the purposes of the first night of the 2020 Democratic National Convention.
Once 8:00 rolled around and the DNC events were over, Shobhit moved over to news programs, Rachel Maddow and the like. I watched a little bit of that but then came back to the bedroom to do a bit more photo captioning for about an hour before coming to bed.
It was so warm in the bedroom last night, it was awful. It seemed even worse than the night before, which was odd as even though the high yesterday was in the mid-eighties, that was still a full ten degrees cooler than the day before. On the upside, by this morning it was so cool again that not only had Shobhit covered us back up with the blanket, he turned off the fan.
Shobhit has the day off work today—he seems to be getting consistently at least one day off from both jobs each week lately, sometimes even two, which is nice. He wants to go to the beach on Lake Washington this afternoon, and I'll probably take a break from work to drive him there just so he doesn't have to take the bus. I'll also need to go to the office today so maybe I'll do that while going to pick him up again.
For some reason, he's also talking about taking a day trip to Lopez Island the next time we both have a day off. He really never gets weekend days off so maybe if he calls in sick one day? I don't know where this is coming from but I do really like the idea.
