small delight

Well, I'm getting a fun little treat through work, I just learned this morning! A case of Tasty Bite Punjab Eggplant Indian Meal packets—which is a six-pack rather than twelve, so not a huge number, but still, my second-favorite flavor by that brand which was unfortunately discontinued back in February!

Both that one and my favorite flavor, Jaipur Vegetables, were put on clearance (I keyed the prices myself!) back in January, to clear them out in favor of new, organic flavors replacing them. Shobhit and I drove around to no fewer than four PCC stores (Ballard, Fremont, Greenlake, Greenlake Village) to basically clean them out of their inventories: it was too good a deal to pass up, all of them priced on clearance retails nearly at cost, plus my 15% employee discount. We came home with about 60 Taste Bite packets—meals and rice—plus 30 cans of Jyoti brand items, and we then packed several of the packets for our trip to Australia to save costs on meals. It actually worked out very well, and we only used up the very last of the Tasty Bite packets last week, and we have just one of the Jyoti cans still left.

Well, yesterday I received an email from the POS (point of sale) person at the Issaquah store, whose name also happens to be Scott; he said he had an NIF ("not in file") code for Tasty Bite Jaipur Vegetables. I had to forward to Kevin first to make sure the item having been discontinued in February still holds, and that it was not actually meant to be reauthorized. Kevin confirmed, and I let Scott know. But, I also told him about buying the items on clearance, and now if it had been up to me, we would never have discontinued that flavor. I even sent him that photo of all the loot we had brought home in January.

This morning I had an email from him that said, Well if you want maybe you can buy the case I pulled from the shelf??

I wrote back, Well, shit! I totally would, except . . . Isssaquah is too far away. ☹

And then? Scott wrote back, OK you owe me big time 😊 (got you covered) I have a care package coming your way....Via Courier 😊

I was like, Whaaaaaa!! So, I guess when I am next in the office, probably Saturday, I should have six Tasty Bite Jaipur Vegetable packets waiting for me.

So, that was just a brief moment of delight from my morning. Getting lots of samples direct from brokers has been on hold for months, but I guess occasionally something like this can still happen.

I was actually in the office just yesterday—later in the day than usual, at Shobhit's suggestion, as he worked at Total Wine and got off at 7:30. He said he could come and pick me up after he got off work if I walked there. I took this suggestion and brought my library book so I could get a bit of reading done while I walked.

I finished work myself at 4:30 as usual, and by 5:00 was making salad for dinner, again at Shobhit's suggestion. By the time I was done actually eating the plate I dished myself, it was nearly 6:00 and time to go. Or so I thought.

For some reason I misremembered and thought Shobhit got off work at 7:00, which was why I left at 6:00. It took me fifty minutes to walk there, and I should have left at 6:30. He actually got off work at 7:30, and I took barely more than ten minutes in the office before I was done and ready to go. So, I had another half hour to just kill before Shobhit came. I went back into the building for a bit, everyone but a janitor now gone, and then waited outside again.

Shobhit finally arrived around 7:40. We attempted to return my library DVD I had picked up at the Central Library on Saturday, only to discover they have limited return hours three days a week, all only until 6:00. Well, shit. I guess I'll try again on Saturday. Anyway, we came home and watched a few episodes of Designing Women, moving into the fifth season, when, judging by the first couple of episodes, it seems to have started to lose its lustre, even before Delta Burke left the show as of season six. I am no longer sure we will continue through the entire series. I still like it okay, but this show does not hold up after all this time anywhere near as well as The Golden Girls has. And I know The Mary Tyler Moore Show holds up, and that ones still sitting there on Hulu waiting to be watched.
