I mean, the strip ran for 10 years, so in retrospect, for me personally, that makes sense. I'm suddenly reminded of a moment in a middle school homeroom class in which I was reading a Calvin & Hobbes collection, and the teacher noticed—and then was so openly delighted to see it I was slightly taken aback. "He really captures a child's imagination," he said, to me, at the age of 12 or 13. He then stood over my shoulder and read the entire strip I had open in my book.
That memory is likely from 1989.
