  • Fri, 9:14: What an incredible shot . . . amazing juxtaposition of old and new, apparently from 1966. For many years the 50-story "black box" Safeco Plaza was the most prominent building in the skyline, but it was not finished until 1969—construction started in 1966, the year of this photo. So between 1961 and 1966, the tallest building in Seattle was the Space Needle (see in center-distance here) and the second-tallest was our beloved Smith Tower (1914, far left). I never even realized those had ever concurrently held the top 2 spots for those years until seeing this picture.
