the coming rains
Ugggh! Too much work to get done. Well, at least since I finally figured out you can manually sort the tasks under the "task bar" in Outlook, which means I have a handy reference list of tasks sorted in order of priority, I feel much more like I have a handle on everything that needs to be done than I did before. Still, I have a lot to get done, and tomorrow is my last day before my Birth Week vacation. On top of that, I'll need to bus downtown in the middle of the workday morning to pick up my rental car for the week—and I still need to help Shobhit locate the parking permit sticker for Capitol Hill that came in the mail but he still hasn't put on the car, so he can park on the street and I can park the rental in the garage—and I also have a 4 p.m. hair appointment to even up the sides of my hair from my appointment last weekend. The hair on my right side is a bit too much longer than on the left and I cannot abide by it.
So, what else? I watched and reviewed the Chinese film Better Days, a melodrama about school bullying, last night. Meh. B-minus. At least now I have seen all five of the Best International Feature Film nominees for the Oscars on Sunday. Tonight I'll watch the last of the Documentary Feature nominees, and I'll finally be done with Oscar prep. Then, most of my predictions for winners will inevitably turn out to be false. Oh, well!
The thing I keep thinking about the most right now is the weather. The past week and a half has been insanely warm; yesterday we logged in seven April days in a row with highs above 70°, a record that had already been set with six days the day before. This is fundamentally bad news, easily enjoyable weather notwithstanding. That said, if it had to happen, why couldn't it happen next week!
Instead, we're looking at highs mostly in the fifties over the next week, with 30-80% chances of rain most days. The days with rain forecast seems to change with each passing day, so, whatever. And on the plus side, I suppose, the cooler, cloudier, possibly wetter weather will keep crowds down at all the state parks I visit, if nothing else. The highest chance of rain right now seems to be on Saturday (80%; 90% where Jennifer lives, actually) so my day that day is pretty much guaranteed to be wet. Hmm, maybe we can just take a car tour? We can improvise and make it work, I'm sure. We already established that I would come to their house first and then drive with them the rest of the way to Jarrell Cove State Park on Harstine Island.
The other days of the week, the chance of rain is 50% at the highest, which means there's just as much of a chance of no rain. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. In any event, I have temporarily added several towns to my list of forecasts in my iPhone weather app, since the weather can really vary in different places around the Puget Sound and the Olympic Peninsula: Federal Way for tomorrow; Union for Saturday; Port Townsend for Sunday; Oak Harbor for when Danielle and I go to Deception Pass on Monday; Long Beach for going there with Dad on Tuesday. Amazingly, right now that's the one day there in the coming week that has no rain in the forecast, which is perfect for our bike ride! Let's just hope that holds.
