  • Sat, 10:46: Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes bike ride with Dad! There are signs all over it saying “no motorized vehicles” so I have no clue how that truck and trailer managed to get on it, passing by like a parade float for 10 a.m. day drinkers. https://t.co/GGkxzCaMTX
  • Sat, 14:18: I think I figured out those day drinkers from earlier! This is the first time I have visited Wallace during one of their many festivals, this being the 79th “Lead Creek Derby” and accompanying “Gyro Days” carnival in town. From the Shoshone News Press article about this year’s event:

“Saturday starts the Lead Creek Derby as the ball drops at noon at the Last Chance Bridge in Mullan. The honor of dropping the ball in the creek this year is being given to a deserving local citizen.

“After the ball drops, people get on bikes, Jeeps, cars, trucks or skateboards and follow the ball to Wallace. The large ball floating down the creek is a unique sight to see for everyone. The crowd celebrates the entire way down the creek as the Gyros help make sure the ball does not get hung up on trees or shrubs. Once in Wallace, the large crowd, the carnival, the winners and all the associated festivities combine for a terrific time.”

The big beach ball type ball they use can actually be seen on the back of the truck pulling the trailer of day drinkers I had taken a picture of, so it was clearly part of the weekend festivities. We’re thinking now they must have been transporting the ball to Mullan via the Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes bike path.

The banner over downtown is all twisted so you can’t read it though, and it says 78 instead of 79 on it, the 78th having been 2019 as it was canceled last year. Do they just print out a new banner every five years or something? Maybe they’re all too drunk to care much about effective marketing. https://t.co/vBj6X0DoBI
  • Sat, 16:37: Pulaski Tunnel Trail. Trail is 2 miles in, last year Shobhit and I made it about 3/4 miles in … this year Dad and I made it 1.5 miles in before needing to turn back due to time constraints. One day I will cover the full two miles, if it takes as long as I live! https://t.co/rwLN7arnPs

Sherri: Matthew you might like this one. A man was admitted to the hospital with twenty-five plastic horses in his rectum.

    Me: TWENTY-FIVE??

Sherri: Doctors described his condition as ‘stable.’

    🤦🏼🤣
