the fruitcake enterprises social review — summer 2021
In the summer of 2021, I engaged in in-person or face-to-face virtual social interaction with the following people on the indicated number of days:
1. Shobhit: 26
2. Ivan: 9
3. Tracy: 8
4. Gabriel: 6
5. Laney: 6
6. Lea: 6
7. Karen: 6
8. Alexia: 5
9. Sachin: 3
10. Claudia: 2
11. Harshal: 2
12. Bridget: 2
13. Eric: 2
14. Justine: 2
15. Danielle: 1
16. Dad: 1
17. Sherri: 1
18. Dave: 1
19. Anita: 1
20. Angel: 1
21. Rebecca: 1
22. Scott: 1
23. Noah: 1
24. Charlie: 1
25. Regina: 1
26. Johanna: 1
27. TJ: 1
28. Adrienne: 1
29. Ashley: 1
30. Kwanteria: 1
31. Lexis: 1
32. Jamie: 1
33. Kelly: 1
34. Marissa: 1
35. Tess: 1
36. Brian: 1 Total days in the spring with in-person social interaction: 47 (51.1%, a -2.2 percentage point change from spring)
. . . Well, look at that: this quarter sees not one, not two, but three people's Social Review points exploding to the top, although even the #2 and #3 slots nowhere near to the degree as Shobhit, whose 26 points have not been that high since winter 2020, and compared to spring of this year, when he finally retained the top spot with all of 13 points, compared to that his points doubled. I think his decision to quit his job at Big 5 really helped here. And then, of course, there's Ivan—living with us yet again, now for the third time, since July 10, his first return to the Social Review since he left for New Zealand in 2019, but with, for him, a record-high 9 points. (He's come close a couple of times at 8 before, when he lived with us the last time in 2017, but this was a new high.) A lot of that was before he got a new job himself, though, so I kind of expect that his points will be a bit lower than that each quarter going forward. After all, his per-month average has dropped precipitously even over the summer: 7 in July alone; 1 each in August and in September. We hang out a lot at home, of course, but when it comes to a roommate, I apply the same rules as I do with Shobhit so they don't have quite as much of an unfair advantage: Social Review points only get allocated either when we go out somewhere, or we hang out together at home with someone outside of the household. And then, #3, not even someone who lives with me: Tracy! I largely have a new "movie buddy" in her (I'm in a pretty sweet spot with multiple people who will potentially see movies in the theater with me, from Shobhit to Ivan to Tracy), but I think the biggest difference with her has been the switch back to working in the office. She still regularly works from home; I would venture to say maybe 40-50% of the time, but the amount of time we spend together at work, sitting right next to each other, still allows us to come up with ways to make plans quite easily. I've already got at least three things on the calendar with her over the next month alone. The rest of the list is now fairly standard. Gabriel, at #4 with 6 points, stays pretty high on the list still because virtually every time it's done virtually over FaceTime—with one exception, when Shobhit and I actually went over to his and Lea's house on July 10. I'm still quite confident that won't happen again for months, honesty probably not until sometime in 2022. Which is fine, I only want to do what he's comfortable with. I remain ever-grateful for the ways video chat allows us to make these sorts of compromises under the current circumstances. My spring list had 45 people on it, mostly because of how I managed to make my Birth Week work; the list is down to 36 this time around, and even that is padded by relatively obscure people at two different work parties and the SLGC reunion party. So then, let's get to it: the who did what with whom where and when!
