Fri, 5:34: Lately I keep noticing how my lips are slightly crooked, making the center of my teeth just barely off center, which is really triggering my OCD sensibilities. Or maybe I just need to stop spending so much time looking at myself in the mirror. HAHAHA nahh...
Fri, 21:35: I'm going to recommend an *old* movie today! The original, 1974 version of THE TAKING OF PELHAM ONE TWO THREE, starring Walter Matthau, Robert Shaw, and Jerry Stiller.
For some time I've been regularly hearing and reading people whose movie opinions I respect bring up this movie and how great it is, particularly in comparison to the 2009 remake starring Denzel Washington and John Travolta, which is widely regarded as inferior and miscast. Before today, I had never seen either one, but the original is a) very entertaining; and b) clearly widely ripped off for decades, in particular in SPEED, which turns out to have been even less original than I ever realized.
Fair warning, it does have some racism and misogyny, particularly reflective of its time, but it's in a kind of surprisingly self-aware way. As in, we are meant to understand that those particular characters are displaying ignorant and bigoted attitudes and it winds up making them look like idiots. Still, it's a little uncomfortable at times.
That aside, this movie is very well directed, *incredibly* well paced, very suspenseful, and sprinkled with some great humor. Shobhit and I had a great time watching it, and guess what? It's streaming on Prime Video.
