an attitude of gratitude
Quick, short update today I think . . . not a lot to tell: Shobhit had a Braeburn Condos Board meeting for about ninety minutes starting at 6:00, and I spent some of that time in the bedroom working on my memorial video for Auntie Rose. I came across a strange clip from that 1992 weekend I spent with her in Seattle, during our ride to a higher floor of what is now Safeco Plaza (1969, 50 floors, 630 ft). The portion I am referring to is in this clip, when we are on the 46th floor, which at the time had no tenants so you see some footage of empty office space, and at the 1:24 mark you hear some rando who happened to be also on that floor telling us about a guy who had only about six months before managed to get through an open window high up on that building and jumped out to his death. The guy gets oddly detailed about it.
I've been trying to find any archived news articles about it and I can't find any. Annoying!
Anyway, once Shobhit's meeting was over, I came out to the living room and we set out to watching this week's episodes of The White Lotus and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.
We stopped in the middle of the first show for a bit, so Shobhit could have a quasi-professional phone call with Claudia. Shobhit had read my post from yesterday about her having been hired at the Washington Farmland Trust, and apparently he went to their website and found two open roles he may be interested in. He asked to get in touch with Claudia to discuss their hiring process, and she was happy to oblige.
I think Shobhit may have become more hesitant after the conversation, as it became clear that applying for these open positions would likely be a lot of work. I would absolutely encourage him to apply for the positions anyway, regardless of any perceived chances he may have of actually getting the job. Putting in a lot of work in any application process is only going to help him in the long run anyway. He needs to get used to that being the case if he's really serious about breaking back out of retail work.
Just as a side note, Claudia told me no fewer than four times last Friday to tell Shobhit thank-you for the samosas I brought for her—I actually brought her six, so she, her husband, and her son could all have two. She mentioned it again earlier this week, and I was like, yes, I let him know you said thank you! And still, at the end of the phone call last night, she still went out of her way to thank him personally. Shobhit laughed and said you're welcome, of course. Her obsession with expressing that gratitude has been a little much, but it's also very sweet.
