The PCR test results from
Wednesday last week finally came back! "SARS-CoV2 not tetected," it says for both Shobhit and me. That's as of a week ago, anyway. It's jut that last week the certainty was 85%, now it's like 99%.
Evidently the results actually did come back yesterday. The problem is, because I used my Hotmail account to register, and Hotmail is my "online ordering" email account which means it gets massive daily deluges of spam, only email addresses flagged as "safe" come into my inbox. I did this with the confirmation emails I got for the rapid tests. Apparently they used a different email address for communicating the PCR test results, which is bizarre and annoying but whatever.
The results didn't even come in email. The emails I finally found in my Junk folder this morning (again, adding that, different email address to my "safe senders" list) first instructed both Shobhit and me, separately and in separate emails with different registration codes, to register accounts for the "GS Labs Patient Portal." So, I created separate accounts for both of us, which, once registered and logged in, I could
then view the PCR test results. "Not detected" on both counts.
Shobhit spent some hours of his third day off yesterday out at the Tulalip Casino. So for all I know, he has it now. Probably not. But, who knows. At least I've got him to start wearing a KN95 mask to work, and he also wore that to go gambling yesterday. I didn't want to forbid him from going, even though I did say it was kind of dangerous when he contemplated going on Monday. When he said he was going to go yesterday, I said, "At least wear an N95 mask," so he did.
In any case, we have the fully confirmed relief from last Wednesday's tests, if nothing else. I feel pretty confident that the calculated risks of spending two holidays with family in Olympia panned out in my favor. Thankfully there are no holidays again any time soon, which means we can now weather the rest of this Omicron surge with minimal risk in terms of gatherings: I won't be around numerous people unmasked indoors again until probably April. Maybe March if you want to call, say, five people "numerous," if I can manage to have Lynne and Tracy over for dinner sometime maybe in March.

As for last night, the highlight of the evening was watching the 1999 horror comedy
Lake Placid with Shobhit. Even Ivan paid some attention to it while he ate his dinner, laughing along at its ridiculousness. I had long wanted to watch it after I found out Betty White (who died on New Year's Eve, just a few weeks from turning 100) had a supporting part in it.
It's easily one of the dumbest movies I have ever seen in my life. But, dumb in a way that is legitimately entertaining—a key distinction I was kind of unaware of. Like, I found myself wondering how intentional it was. This movie seemed to be aware of its own ridiculousness. And seeing Betty White with a deeply foul mouth was a true delight. This did not seem to be the kind of bad movie that is the result of incompetence. The truly idiotic dialogue never felt quite accidental. And the CGI rendering of the giant crocodile, brief as it was (cumulatively less than five minutes of screen time), was impressive for the era, which indicates some talent and intention behind at least some aspects of the movie.
In any case, I was very entertained. Shobhit only chuckled a few times—he'd seen it before—but I laughed a lot. It was a perfectly adequate way to spend 82 minutes of a Tuesday evening, anyway.
