Very little to report on today, and little time to do it in anyway . . . Shobhit had an unusually late shift last night, working from 1:45 to 10:15; I was barely fallen asleep when he got home. So, obviously, no watching anything together last night. I really didn't watch anything on my own either.
I spent the time working on both updating my budget, which I had gone way too long without doing so it took up a fair bit of time, and updating some playlists in Apple Music. I did finally come up with a pretty clever use of Garageband on my iMac, which necessitated re-installing the program as some time ago I removed it in a futile attempt at getting my computer to run faster.
Anyway, this has to do with George Michael, and his apparently quick-found distaste for his career-defining 1987 single "I Want Your Sex." The original album
Faith features three versions of that song, "part one," "part two" and "part three"; the third closes out the album, but the first and second have always been combined as one, 9-minute track on CDs or digitally, even though the horn-heavy "part two" was never part of the original single. This has been causing me frustrations for years, in terms of its inclusion on playlists, as it forces the inclusion of all nine minutes when all I want is the first five or so.
Back when Apple Music was the far more easily customizable iTunes, I found an online tutorial fix for this, where I could create a duplicate of the track then for each one put in track-specific settings so it stopped or start at the split second between the two songs. It always still listed as a nine minute run time, but one would only play "part one" and one would only play "part two." Well, the switch to Apple Music, quite frustratingly, wiped out any of my customizations.
Last night I finally thought to import a copy of the track into Garageband, where I could simply cut "part two" right off of it, then re-save it as just "part one." Once the several minutes it took just to reinstall the application was done, this was surprisingly easy to do, and it imported to Apple Music just fine. So, now I
finally have a copy of
just "I Want Your Sex, Pt. 1."
This can't be found anywhere officially, by the way. Believe me, I've looked. Even his "best of" collection actually does split the original 9-minute track—but then includes
only "Part 2"! What the shit. Well, I think I've cleverly one-upped him. For now. My playlists that include the track are finally again playing the way I want them to.
The man's been dead for five years. Whatever issue he personally had with that first single that put him on the map in 1987 is rather moot now, is it not? Someone should release a proper digital version of just "Part 1."

So anyway, that's about it. Except I guess I'll mention this: I have definitely decided to work at the office on Friday, so I can be there on Scott's last day. Tracy confirmed to me yesterday that he'll be there—and so will she. In fact, she suggested that she and Scott and Noah and I go for a "goodbye dinner" after work on Friday too, which somewhat to my surprise, everyone was available for. Normally I might have suggested having spouses attend too, but, beyond the fact that Tracy is the only one among us who is single, a group of four is better than a group of seven, for multiple reasons right now. And I'll be keeping my KN95 mask on except when I'm actually eating.
We do have an appliance repair person scheduled to come on Monday morning, though. Until now I had assumed I would be working at home for that. But, Shobhit has the day off on Monday so he'll be home. Whether I still come back home just for that, I'm not sure yet.
So my days are scheduled to be pretty eventful from here on out. Even starting yesterday—I forgot to mention I attended the Virtual PCC Board Meet and Greet over Zoom between 4:30 and 5:30, which featured another introduction of Krish as our new CEO. Previously his desk was right in front of mine, but I noticed when I was in the office on Monday that his desk was totally cleared. I could tell on the Zoom call yesterday that he had already—and appropriately—shifted over to the CEO desk on the other side of the building.
Shortly after work this evening, Shanti and Guru have their firt vet appointment since before the pandemic. I don't know if we took them in back in 2019 or not; I have nothing in my Google Calendar archives sinc4e March of 2018, actually—four years ago! They'll know for sure, I'm sure. I did have an appointment already booked for them in April 2020, but for obviously pandemic reasons, especially then, it had to be canceled until further notice. They reopened last year, maybe even late 2020 as I don't recall for sure, but for a long time they would not let pet owners come inside with their pets. The cats are so traumatized by a vet visit itself that we did not want to make them go in without us, so we waited. Now they just say proof of vaccination and masks are required, which I'm all for. Hopefully the exam will go okay. I actually have several questions prepared now, specific to both cats.
Tomorrow at 4:00 the Merchandising Team has a "Virtual sendoff" for Scott, because we're still not doing in-person gatherings at the office, especially not as large as the entire department. I still really like Tracy's suggestion of one last thing for just the four of us on Friday too. Currently I have nothing specific planned for either Saturday or Sunday, except a possible movie; I now have plans to see a movie with Tracy on both Monday
and Wednesday next week. So my calendar is booking right back up again.
