I returned to the bathhouse last night for the first time in five months. This time, it wasn't covid keeping me away, but monkeypox; I'm now fully vaccinated for both, and it was enough of a time buffer from any family gathering or large group event (and in that case it was still a covid concern) that I finally felt okay returning. Besides, Shobhit and I did also just recently get our omicron booster shots, a couple of weeks before the trip to Leavenworth.

I'll just say: I had a great experience, probably better than any since before the pandemic. Totally worth the wait. I still wore a mask almost the entire time I was there (unless in the room I rented), and I was one of maybe three people there who did this time. Mask wearing across the board has really fallen, except perhaps on public transit. There's a thing called "layered mitigation," though, and I am still adding masking on top of being vaccinated, in most indoor public settings.

All that aside, I don't write detailed accounts of such exploits here, as I know a lot of my readers aren't interested (especially family, who I don't even want to be interested). But, given this accounts for the majority of my evening last night, it leaves me with little else to update you on.

I can say that, in sharp contrast to most other visits there, I didn't have to be at the bathhouse for more than about ninety minutes, because I got some action unusually quickly. The upshot of this, to move today's DLU content back into the nonsexual, was that it got me back home in time to catch up on not one but two episodes: Andor, ending the front half of its season with a truly spectacular episode; and the season finale of The Rings of Power, which actually managed to shock me and then sort of turn back on what seemed for a moment to be a twist.

I really enjoyed them both, in any case. And by the time they were done, to be fair, I was still up later than I prefer: it wasn't all finished until about 10:30. But, I like to listen to my "deep dive" podcast about The Rings of Power on Fridays! The show releases episodes officially every Friday, but that means 12 a.m. Eastern Time, which means it's available to me on Prime Video on Thursday nights at 9:00. Which is always when I watch it. I'm actually kind of bummed the season is over, but I look forward to listening the podcast that should offer me deeper understanding of some Tolkien detail stuff I really didn't quite get.
