  • Thu, 08:27: Sometimes I get notifications on Flickr of people "liking" the seemingly most random photos from ages ago . . . like this morning: one of my mom, with a cigarette, September 2005. https://t.co/4AQR1YlAsu

Incidentally, to my utter astonishment (she had smoked since she was 9), she actually stopped smoking in 2014, about a month after her first major stroke, with the help of Chantix. It was the most impressive thing I ever saw her do.

It's jarring sometimes to get unexpected, random reminders of Mom, two years after her death. I would not have had this in mind at the time, when she just looked like "normal Mom" to me, but I clicked on the photo this morning and couldn't help thinking about how good she looks here. She looks happy.

Side note: it's usually not hard to figure out what's in an old picture that's making some rando like it on Flickr. I went to the Flickr profile of the person who "liked" this photo, and he has no photos of his own uploaded to his account. You can see a feed of all the photos a person has liked, though, and this guy's ... all photos of women smoking.

I guess, to some people at least, even after death ... Mom's still got it? Good for her!
