crossing lines

I suppose the frequency with which I check local and state Covid stats and data borders on obsessive. And I saw an update to the King County COVID-19 Outcomes by Vaccination Status that was briefly a little unsettling.

The data now goes through February 10. And here's a kind of shocking twist: as of February 9, the cases per 100,000 people with a booster vaccine shot is higher than those just categorized as "fully vaccinated"! Like, what the fuck? What the hell could account for that? I even tried finding any news coverage online discussing this, and can't find anything whatsoever.

Something did occur to me as a fairly logical probability, though. It could easily be that people with the booster shot, on average, are being less strict with their precautions, knowing that they are far more protected than people with only the two initial doses. That sounds like a contradiction, unless there's just a higher number of boosted people (per 100,000) who are, for example, dining inside at restaurants without masks, etc, than the number who get the greater protection from the booster shot.

That's the only explanation that makes sense to me. It still seems bizarre to see those two lines switch positions, though. Also, I just took another look, and I guess the per-capita infection rate among the boosted as actually peaked higher than the "fully vaccinated" population more than once before. It seems to be back in August of last year, which leaves me confused yet again. I thought booster shots didn't start happening until the fall? I want answers! Maybe they were boosting the elderly in the summer. Probably. I'm just not remembering.

I thought I was going to watch and review Red Rocket on VOD last night, even though the cost is currently $12.99—until I discovered that's not a rental price, and it can only be a digital purchase currently. I don't need a permanent movie file of a movie I am unlikely ever to watch again, so I bagged the idea. I'll revisit when it's available for rent at a lower price.

Instead, I made dinner (salad rendered far less healthy with the addition of cheese and salad dressing, but damn was it tasty), and then watched it while watching the new Ali Wong comedy special on Netflix, Don Wong. I think her previous two specials, which made her famous, were better, but this one was still very good and I laughed a lot.

This also meant I watched something for all of one hour rather than two, and I did not have to follow it with writing a review. Shobhit worked a late shift last night, so I had the evening to myself. Once again I only saw Ivan very briefly at one moment, as he was still sleeping while I watched the special, and then I saw him in his room with the door open when I came out of the bedroom to get a Zevia soda. We just said hi and that was it.

Otherwise, I spent the rest of the evening working on the reconstruction of my playlists. I've reached the Cs! Bjork is all done (four playlists for her); I also did my "Broadway" playlist, then "Capitol Heart" (favorites by Heart for releases on Capitol Records, so 1985 through 1995), then the two Cher playlists. Going alphabetically, I next have my many Christmas playlists to reconstruct—eight different ones. And they are currently a complete mess. I mean, I won't need them again until after Thanksgiving, but I don't want to get to Thanksgiving only to realize I had forgotten to get to them. I might as well just get them done.

Oops! I opted to eat lunch at my desk, as there was a huge meeting today of managers or something and they were all in the kitchen, crowded enough to be a little triggering so I didn’t eat in there. Then, without thinking, I went back to work and forgot to post today's DLU. Until now!
