Here I was thinking I could make some headway today on things I was behind on at work, and then I forgot I had a dental checkup this morning. It might have been different without that. But, I didn't get to work until about 9:30, and bizarrely, I came to my desk and opened email to find two different things I needed to attend to immediately, and even got a phone call from an unrelated vendor in the middle of that. I guess that's just often how it is: the steady stream of shit that keeps you from getting other things done. What a pain in the ass!
I'm still very lucky to have the job I have, with as little stress as it really poses. I should count my blessings. Again.
Anyway. The dentist wants to put a partial crown on a tooth whose large filling is weakening. He says it's not an emergency but if I want to be proactive I should get it done within the next six months or so. The thing is, they presented me with an estimate that showed my insurance would only cover 50% of it. My half would be about $605. My FSA card balance is already down to $921. I guess I should have added more to it this year. Shobhit is saying I should "put it on hold" for now.
The cleaning this morning otherwise seemed more annoying and uncomfortable than usual. I don't know if it was the new lady doing the cleaning or what. It was probably just as irritating as usual. They like to get into the corners of the gums in ways that sometimes hurts. I'm always glad when it's done. The awful thing about the partial crown idea is that it involves two different appointments three weeks apart, with both of them potentially involving Novocain shots! Jesus Christ. I'm not so averse to putting that off. I'm just concerned about the warning that putting it off increases the risk of a cavity in a tooth with a weakening filling, which could make everything worse. Bleh.

As for last night, Shobhit had a late shift at work, and I watched the first of this year's six Seattle International Film Festival movies—this being one of the four purchased for streaming at home:
Cat Daddies, which I really enjoyed. It's at least the third cat-related documentaries I have now seen over recent years at SIFF, and it's easily the best, and beautifully shot. It's about men, specifically, who love cats.
I got a late start on watching it, though, because Shobhit had texted me suggesting I make "something different" for dinner than the backstock we still have of the sambar he made a few days ago. So, I made pasta—which yielded yet more leftovers, these filling four lunch containers. I added six chopped veggie sausage patties from Costco this time, which I think really enhanced the flavor of the pasta sauce. It took me about an hour to make dinner, so it was around 6:30 before I could get the movie started. I tried screen sharing it to the TV via the Apple TV box I have that is over ten years old and thus now wildly outdated, and this process is always glitchy so as soon as the screen went black I just retreated back to the bedroom to watch it on my computer.
So, it was over by around 8:00, and then I took another hour or so to write the review. It was not long after that before it was time to start getting ready for bed.

Coming to work late this morning, and from the dentist on 12th Avenue, it was s short walk to the Capitol Hill Light Rail station. I was surprised to run into Ivan coming up the escalator. He waved at me and I was like, "Oh my god!" Then I realized he was coming home from his night shift at work, at about the same time he usually does. He was pretty incurious about why I was there that late in the morning, but that's typical for him too.
