Fri, 11:05: Amanda's working from home, needed training on a process that I was going to walk her through over Microsoft Teams. Her work laptop isn't picking up sound. Solution: still get on Teams so she could share her screen; speak over the phone via our personal numbers so she could actually hear me.
My AirPods only work so people can hear *me* intermittently these days. By some miracle, at first, they worked.
Further technical issues, not even related to audio, necessitated getting IT involved. Justin from IT initiated a Teams meeting, in which Justin could hear me and Amanda; I could hear Amanda and Justin; Amanda could only hear me because we were still connected via our phones.
For a moment I had one AirPod in my left ear and my work earpiece in my right ear. That made the AirPods stop working after a minute, but just keeping the phone set on my desk so Amanda could hear me, and my work earpiece in my right ear so I could hear Amanda and Justin, seemed to work. But, anything Justin said, I had to repeat for Amanda. It was like the dumbest interpreter job in history.
It feels like we're too far into the 21st century for our systems to be this janky.
Fri, 17:02: Gabriel mentioned this the last time I saw him and now I can’t stop noticing it. It’s mind boggling how many people continue walking around with a mask on, but pulled halfway off their face. Masks aren’t even required in most places anymore so it’s doubly pointless: it’s offering no protection to anyone whatsoever, plus it looks moronic.
It’s as though people are just treating them strictly as fashion accessories now. I’m really not on board with this idea. Not hot!
