Sun, 11:24: #HappyMothersDay to all the women who had an abortion that allowed them to live the lives they wanted and deserved and made it possible to wait as long as they needed to have children they actually wanted and were ready for.
Sun, 13:57: Just had a presumably underage young man ask if I could go into a dispensary for him and his friend. That was new.
Sun, 15:34: #BirthWeek train #15! Seattle Monorail, just to be a completist—now, just over the past 10 days, I have ridden on all four mass transit rail systems available in Seattle (five if you count Amtrak).
This one-mile track was built in 1962 as part of the "Century 21 Exposition" World's Fair, and opened a month before the Fair did. To this day people use it as part of their route to visit Seattle Center and/or the Space Needle at its north end; to get downtown at its south end; or even part of a work commute either way (it finally started accepting Orca Cards only as of 2019).
Between 1996 and 2005 there was a great hope that this merely one-mile track would expand into a city-wide system, which the city voted yes on *four times* before some asshole put it on the ballot yet a fifth time due to budget overruns and the voters finally rejected it (as you can imagine, I was all for it every time). I still dream of a regional monorail network that will never be; I get some consolation in the grand expansion of Light Rail that is underway.
Today I bought a $37 ticket up the Space Needle just so I could get shots of the Monorail from 500 feet above it. I’m just flaunting my wealth over here!
(I spent a lot of time standing around waiting for trains to come back and forth so I could get a good shot. Between that and the fact that today literally everyone and their mother has other plans, it’s just as well that I went alone.) https://t.co/srnOCd3h38
