I had my second monthly "Watch Party" virtual movie watch with Kwanteria last night. I had suggested Booksmart, and even though we had both seen it in theaters when it was first released in 2019, we were both excited about the prospect of watching it again. I think I might have enjoyed it even more the second time around—that movie is fucking hilarious. When Kwanteria and I were chatting through the movie, we regularly could barely breathe from laughing so hard.

The movie is streaming on Hulu, and she had said she had a Hulu account, but she couldn't get it to play on her laptop. After a few minutes she figured out it wouldn't play anything on Hulu at all—something about the VPN on her laptop. I'm guessing it must have something to do with the laptop having been registered to her in Seattle before she moved back to Houston. Or, and this just occurred to me just now: I wonder if she's working on her work laptop? If so, it's probably blocked. I should ask her about that.

Anyway, it was going to be convenient being able to stream the movie at no extra cost, but we were so invested is seeing this particular movie, she went ahead and rented it on Prime Video. She tried to share the link with me for the Watch Party on Amazon, but I also had to rent it! What bullshit. Oh well, at least it was only four bucks. I went ahead and rented it too.

And after actually watching it, it was totally worth it.

She brought up the upcoming Netflix series of The Addams Family, and we got to talking about how much we both love the 1991 and 1993 movies starring Angelica Huston as Morticia. We decided we'd watch the first one for our September movie and the second one, Addams Family Values, in October, which would be perfectly timed for Halloween month. These are not streaming for free anywhere I have a subscription, but I can probably do another trial membership of Paramount+ to make it work. We'll see.

After I was done with the movie with Kwanteria, I went out to the living room so Shobhit and I could watch this week's episode of Reservation Dogs. For some reason he just decided to get into it, when he caught wind that I've been watching the current second season, so he went and started on season one last week, or maybe just a few days ago. He caught up on the previous three episodes of season two just yesterday. Watching episode four together, he had a lot fresher memory of all that had occurred in season one.

I've got a relatively busy weekend coming up yet again, though thankfully not quite as deeply involved as last weekend had been. Last weekend was the dinner we hosted at home on Friday; my trek across the Sound to Claudia's "Garden Party" in Port Orchard on Saturday; and Shobhit's and my afternoon in West Seattle for a disappointingly minor Alki Beach Pride on Sunday. At least it was still a nice afternoon in West Seattle.

I took passenger ferries on two days last week, and will be again this evening: second August Happy Hour with Laney, back in West Seattle again. I took Shobhit's backpack and brought both a packed dinner and a thermos cocktail, along with margarita salt and sunscreen spray. Tomorrow, Zephyr and Lynn will be at a tattoo expo at Seattle Center so we'll meet them for dinner after it.

That whole thing tomorrow is already a near-miss: Zephyr and Lynn have a roommate who got covid a couple of weeks ago; Zephyr got sick soon after, and it is now ten days since his symptoms started. Lynn had a few days of symptoms, and she got a PCR test yesterday to make sure she was in the clear for tomorrow, when she'll actually be on display for the expo, getting a very elaborate tattoo done. She just got the test back this morning and it was negative; she said Zephyr will do a home test tomorrow again just to double check. In any event, as of now they are all testing negative. I had messaged her a few days ago about whether I should make reservations for dinner, and she did not get back to me until last night, saying she was waiting for PCR test results.

Lynn and Zephyr were early-days covid people: they both caught it in 2020, making it a more severe sickness than it is for most people now. Clearly they've gotten a second strain, and now they've had it twice. That makes them the first people I know to have gotten it more than once. Most people seem to have gotten it at least once at this point. Except for Gabriel, Lea and Tess. As long as Gabriel's very old grandmother is still alive, they will continue to be far more cautious than just about anyone else. Which is understandable.

Anyway. Laney will be coming over to our place again on Sunday, for our last scheduled movie for the summer: Knives Out. Looks like I'll have to rent that one too, but I just discovered it current has a Prime member discount knocking it down to two bucks. I think I can afford that.
