biking into the weekend

Not much to tell today. I've got an eventful weekend ahead of me, starting with the fourth annual Virtual Pumpkin Carving Party with Gabriel, Lea, Tess and Mandy, which is set for 8:00. I thought about going to see a movie last night, but knowing I needed to go get a pumpkin, I decided, screw it, I'm not making plans tonight (last night).

I rode my bike home from work, and basically immediately afterward, after leaving my bike helmet in the condo and grabbing a tote bag, I walked over to Trader Joe's. Shobhit suggested going there, and for some reason I hadn't even thought of that. I have no idea whether pumpkins would have beeb more expensive a bit further away at Safeway or QFC, and none of Trader Joe's pumpkins were especially big, but they're big enough.

They didn't have pricing signage up, which was annoying. Another customer even asked me if I knew how much they were, and I could only tell her I was trying to find it myself. We both picked a pumpkin regardless. I went to a cashier and said, "There was no price on these." I was informed they were each $4.99. I can live with that. I can also only hope that, once carved, it lasts longer than some of the pumpkins I've had in the past have. They often rot before Halloween actually arrives.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to it. And tomorrow Shobhit and I are going to see Killers of the Flower Moon at 10:00 a.m. That movie is three and a half hours long. With trailers it will be four hours. I'm then seeing it again with Laney in two weeks. So it better be excellent! I'm actually expecting that it will be.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention: I had thought I would make yesterday the last day I ride my bike for the year, but the rain in today's forecast went away, and it was several degrees warmer (57°) this morning than it was yesterday morning (53°), even though the forecast high today (61°) is notably cooler than it was yesterday (67°). But, that was enough for me: I'll bike to work one more time.

I think by next week it will be noticeably both cooler and darker at the time I come to work. I'm pretty sure this is finally my last bike commute of the year. For real this time!

Anyway, last night. I had intended to do some work on the calendars, and ended up not doing much at all with them. They're very close to order-ready anyway. I really want to put Alexia's son Bram's birthday on hers, but I have no idea how to find it out without giving away what I'm doing. The guy has no internet presence that I can find. (Smart on his part.) Alexia barely does; she has an Instagram account for her cat and a LinkedIn profile and that's about it.

I then got distracted. I suddenly decided I wanted an Apple Music playlist of openly gay (or in some cases, bisexual) men singers. I wanted a playlist using Troye Sivan as a jumping-off point: openly queer men (or, I guess as in the case of Sam Smith, openly queer AMAB) who, on average, have been defined—in a positive way—by their sexuality.

I'm very happy with it, and think it makes a great playlist. I really like opening it with "I Want to Break Free" by Queen, followed by "For Your Entertainment" by Adam Lambert who has toured with Queen, followed by "Fastlove" by George Michael who toured with Queen before Adam Lambert did. Sequencing matters!

There are other tracks by Troye Sivan (2), Lil Nas X (2), Sam Smith (2), Rufus Wainwright (2), with some other comparatively obscure singers sprinkled in: Mika, Savage Garden, R.E.M., Scissor Sisters. I selected what is apparently the most successful single by Scissor Sisters, on which Elton John played piano, and followed that with Elton John himself, "Your Song." I actually like the version from Moulin Rouge better but whatever.

Aside from that, I spent more time working my way back in time logging movies and the dates I went to see them on Letterboxd. I'm now back to December 2013. I have the previous decade covered, and currently have 1,459 films logged. I'm obsessed.
