The Huddle Games

I took transit directly to the AMC 10 in the U District from work yesterday, first on a Rapid Ride C bus downtown, where I transferred to Light Rail, three stops from Westlake Station to U District Station. I got there with over 10 minutes to spare for a 5:15 pm showing of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.

It wasn't that great. B-minus material. This is basically in line with the very mixed reviews it was getting, but I figured, if nothing else, I would be entertained for two and a half hours. I was pretty entertained for a good hour and forty-five minutes.

Tracy had expressed interest in this as one of the movies this fall that she might want to see with me. But, when I had to tell her my only real window for going to see it would be after work last night, she said she couldn't make that. She didn't miss much anyway.

I took Light Rail the two stops back to Capitol Hill Station, walked home from there, wrote up the movie review. I struggled with it a little bit I got it done.

What else can I tell you? I have one more movie to go see tonight, once again in the U District. That showtime is at 5:45 so I'm actually going to try to get home briefly first, feed the cats, leave again.

Tomorrow: laundry. Packing. Grand Opening event of the Seattle Festival of Trees at the Fairmont Hotel.

Sunday: we fly to LAX. Then drive, with Shobht's niece Shivy who will have flown there from Maryland, in a rental car to Faith's place in Palm Springs. More specifically, Desert Hot Springs. Hardly a difference. You can see Palm Springs down in the valley from her backyard.

We had an "All-Office Huddle" at work this morning. So far as I can recall, this is the first office-only meeting we've had since before the pandemic—post-2020, with the exploding advent of video chat, we've consistently had "All Store & Office" Town Halls. It was nice to get an office-only meeting again, though—even though plenty of people logged in remotely. Those of us at the office still completely filled up the conference room, and although I usually arrive early enough to get a seat in the front, I needed to use the bathroom at the last minute and then was the last person to arrive. I had to sit on the bench along the back wall, beneath the windows, next to Mackenzie.

This meeting was at 10:00, scheduled for an hour, lasted a good ninety minutes. Gabby's and my weekly 1:1 is usually scheduled at 10:30 but because of the "Huddle" she moved it to 11:30. And because of the Huddle going over, I had to use the bathroom real quick one more time, and then barely made it to the meeting with Gabby. She surprised me by telling me the meeting gave her a "roller coaster of emotions," much in the first twenty minutes legitimately bothering her. She had very valid points, but, maybe I was just still more used to how these meetings tend to go—there's always plenty of time for Q&A, and today we got a solid hour of it. I was just appreciative that they were hosting the meeting at all.

Not that any problem that was addressed got solved or anything, or even got a clear road map to getting solved. Sometimes, though, just feeling heard can make a big difference.
