Shobhit picked me up from work yesterday, and we took a couple of "friends and family" $20 off $40 coupons down to the Downtown PCC store, where most of the center-store product is on a 25% discount. We probably should have known better, but we tried to combine those two discounts, and it didn't work.
Gabby told me this morning that there's actually an IT glitch going on, even with the intent of not combining discounts: what it was actually doing, at our self-checkout register, was applying the 25% discount and not the coupon discount. According to Gabby, the system
should be applying the deeper of two discounts that cannot be combined.
Still, Ellie happened to be there—Shobhit is very familiar with her because, when she worked at the Central District store where we usually do our shopping, he got her to sign over democracy vouchers for his Seattle City Council campaign. She happened to be nearby, and she actually did some manual magic at the staff register that's by the self checkout area. She wasn't able to fully apply both discounts, but I believe what she did do was apply my 15% employee discount before then applying the $20 off coupon. In any case, she hooked us up, which was very cool of her, and I got a stupendous deal on
Source Naturals Wellness Forumula immunity capsules, which I take every day. I already have a back stock of one extra jar at home, from the last time these were on sale; now I have three.
I had been hoping to stock up on ZuZu Luxe liquid eyeliner, but that was evidently among the higher-end product that's just been transferred to other stores rather than marked down at the Downtown store, which Shobhit and I both agreed made sense. So, we took another one of the $20 off $40 coupons (there's still a ton of these at work; I actually emailed several to Valerie several weeks ago, which she really appreciated), which is only valid from Wednesday this week until Tuesday next week, to the Greenlake Aurora store, where I knew they have the full array of colors available, of the eyeliner. This is kind of ironic given Greenlake is one of our smallest stores, but it must have to do with rate of sales there. I don't think this is the case anymore, but for many years Greenlake had the highest sales per square foot of any of our stores. Anyway, these eyeliner pens are $16.99 each, but I managed to get three of them for $26. Nice!
I have a bunch more of the coupons and we plan to go back more times before Wednesday next week.

Although there's a new episode of
Fargo for us to catch up on, Shobhit and I did not watch anything after I we got home. He spent the evening reading my library copy of
Aristotle and Dante Dive into the Waters of the World (and discovering a pretty glaring editing mistake, which made a plot point very confusing, and which I totally missed when I read the book—but I still love it anyway), while I spent the evening working on my end-of-year posts.
I finished up my Top 10 movies of the year post, which I shared
on my movie review blog feed this morning before getting ready for the day. Half of my top 10 actually overlap
with Barack Obama's!
I also finished my "2023 at PCC" email, which I also sent out this morning, adding several new office people I've never sent that annual email to. That made me realize I seem to have, in one way or another, connected with more coworkers in a new way over the past year than usual, maybe ever. I guess I really am becoming kind of a walking institution around here. Anyway, I'll post the blog version of that tomorrow.
This means I have only one thing left to work on, which is still going to take some time, and I have only two days in which to do it: my "2023 in Ten Minutes" video. On the upside, I've already got the Australia segment done, which means I only have six minutes left to fill.
