We've had
a lot of rain this week, along with warmer than usual temperatures. Seattle proper is too hilly for there to be much in the way of flooding problems, but that doesn't stop Shobhit from getting ridiculously paranoid about it, telling me to be careful when I leave for work in the morning, as if I haven't been existing in rainy weather for decades.
The other day he even tried to get me to wear my hiking shoes rather than the slip-ons I usually wear. I was like, "Shobhit. Settle down. It's just rain!" Besides, the pair of lace-up shoes I have are actually really porous so my feet would actually get a lot more wet if I wore those instead. Now, I do have water resistant boots, but those have the soles partially detached and I keep meaning to glue them and keep forgetting.
Well anyway, the rain this morning was far heavier than it's been any other morning so far this week. It was kind of nuts. I probably would have been better off wearing the boots, regardless of the soles issue, but today I didn't even think about it. I really should have transferred to another bus downtown at Pine & 3rd, and by the time I realized how wet I was getting as I walked the mile to work from there, it wouldn't have made any difference if I got on a bus anyway, and from there I'd have to have gone a few blocks out of my way to do so.
There was a particular intersection, where Elliott Way turns into Elliott Ave, where there were some gusts of wind combined with unusually heavy rainfall. I had my umbrella, so I was fine at the top of my body, but this blew a lot of the rain kind of horizontally, and my jeans are still damp from that, hours later, as I write this.
As for my shoes? I was able to be careful enough that my shoes and socks didn't get
soaked—but, the outside of my shoes did get coated with rain, and I got some wet spots on my socks. I spent the morning with my shoes and socks off, my socks draped over the lip of my small recycle bin at my desk, to help them dry off. I've put my shoes and socks back on briefly whenever I've needed to go to the kitchen or the bathroom.

As for last night, no social engagements—I had leftover stir fried rice for dinner, Shobhit had some of that as well, and I made us chai. We watched this week's episode of
Fargo, which was great.
Alexia is in Phoenix for work, but I texted her to ask if I could go to her place and borrow her allen keys. (I really need to buy my own set.) She told me to go ahead, and with the aid of a couple of YouTube tutorials, I was able to disassemble the hot water faucet of my bathroom sink, because it has been leaking and I need to replace the washer. When I first got the parts unscrewed, a piece of the white part just broke right off. No wonder it's been leaking.
I put the pieces into a Ziploc bag to take to the store for reference, and Shobhit will go and guy a new one today. Hopefully I'll find the time tonight to put it all back together with the new part. I am so butch!
