Fri, 10:49: I keep meaning to share this and forgetting: my new most fascinating building in Sydney, Quay Quarter Tower, the “world’s first upcycled skyscraper.”
This actually started as AMP Centre in 1976, at the time Sydney’s tallest building, at 617 ft (188 m) and 45 floors. Now, and since 2022, it has been reconstructed at a height of 709 ft (216 m) with 54 floors. It’s now Sydney’s 16th-tallest building.
The building was outdated and reaching the end of its lifespan, and its owners decided to do this instead of demolishing it and rebuilding from scratch. I had already read about it but forgot what it looked like and took several photos of it there the past couple of weeks without realizing it was this building. Beyond that, I have photos of it under construction from our 2020 visit when I had no idea this was what it would become.
