Tue, 09:33: I didn't even know about this until our CEO sent a co-op wide email about it this morning. And honestly, I'm having a hard time deciding how to feel about it (although to be clear, Kshama Sawant's involvement in this leaves a bad taste in my mouth). The idea that PCC can easily afford "hazard pay," which is an extra $4 for all hourly store employees, is absurd. That said, PCC's response that the union itself did not sanction this protest, and that "the union contract is up for renewal"—effective in 2024!—feels disingenuous, in light of certain pressing specific staff concerns that are plainly valid.
Honestly I feel that a lot of this stems from our rapid growth and expansion over the past decade, far faster than staff on average could keep up with, which inevitably resulted in the corporatization of many facets of how this organization, ostensibly a cooperative, operates. These kinds of responses to that were inevitable.https://t.co/H9bzHijvfQ
