I decided today, apropos of nothing, that my three DLU photos would be favorite skyline shots of the three major cities we visited in Australia. Actually what I really wanted was for them to all be airplane shots of the skylines, but unfortunately both arriving and leaving Adelaide, I was seated on the wrong side of the plane to get a view of the Central Business District through the window. So, I settled for a skyline shot from our hotel room in Adelaide—even that one not featuring much in the way of skyscrapers, facing the other way, but still a very pretty sunset shot.
That shot above is one of my very favorite shots of Sydney. I really love it. That was taken on our descent into Sydney—the second of three such descents into Sydney, actually, thanks to having to rebook with a layover there on our way to Brisbane from home—on February 24.
I actually hadn't had the aerial shot of Brisbane (below, center photo in this post) earmarked for use as a Daily Lunch Update (DLU) photo, but I decided I liked it for use here. I typically try to find some kind of common thread between the three photos I use in these DLU posts, although admittedly a lot of the time that thread is a bit of a stretch that probably no one would identify. Maybe not even I will after some time goes by. Who cares! Today, I like these photos.

I spent the evening at home last night, after walking home from work. I helped Shobhit make dinner, and I made us chai. Then I set about finishing my draft of the Winter 2023 Social Review, which was then
posted this morning.
I made all the photo thumbnails that small by accident. It sort of works out though, because I only bothered to find six photos out of the 40 people listed this quarter. I usually try to find photos for everyone listed, but that's much more of a challenge these days what with both Action Movie Night and Book Club, which feature many people I don't have photos of. That includes Tony, the highest-ranking person on the list, at #7. So I figured, fuck it, I'll just embed photo thumbnails for the top six, so that I don't have to find some goofy photo of some unrelated thing to represent Tony (and others), or otherwise have the photos weirdly spotty down the list. Also, finding all those photos, selecting the best one to use, and copying and pasting the embed code—it's very time consuming, at least when I do it for everyone on the list. Doing it for just six people didn't take so long.
I helped Shobhit with kind of proofreading his Seattle City Council candidate profile, sort of as he went along with the writing—the very thing I really hate when he does it to me as I'm trying to write something. We just have very different styles, I guess. I then suggested he send it to someone else for feedback, as I did not want the responsibility of being the only one with any thoughts on the matter, especially when I have zero experience in political campaigns and the marketing of candidates. I suggested he send it to his friend Amy, the one who had once successfully campaigned to get on a County Council seat in Illinois. This proved to be an excellent suggestion, as she came back with many pointers that really meant he needed to rewrite the whole thing—at least for sending to anyone in the press, anyway. The guy who runs the Capitol Hill Blog will be doing a phone interview with him on Thursday and Shobhit was going to send what he wrote to him. Amy didn't think that was a good idea.
This is just one small example of why Shobhit needs the expertise and advisory services of people other than myself. He needs to figure out how to avoid creating the perception that he's in over his head. I am far from the right person to guide his messaging in such a way. He needs actual experts, or at least people with genuine experience in these arenas.

Shobhit texted me this morning
You didn't add Uncle David and Mary Ann to the social review? Oh, shit! How could I forget about them? I guess I was overfocused on being with Shobhit in Australia—but, we also spent
five days with them! I did already have them included in the log of activities and who I did them with; I just forgot to add them in the rankings.
I immediately went in and fixed that. Good thing, too, since now that they're added,
they rank #6 and #7 with 5 points each!
I guess it's a good thing nobody but me (and Shobhit) pays attention to my Social Review posts. They won't likely see this blog to be offended at being left out anyway. Regardless, they're included now as they should have been from the start.
