RIP “Holiday Fuel” canisters.
There is something very annoying about how inconsistent the application of apparent rules are at different airports in Australia.
This time, taking the canisters through security for carry-on at Adelaide Airport, the rule we were told was that liquor is considered a “flammable liquid” and was not permitted. They said this even applied to the canister that is now empty, because it *had* flammable liquid in it.
This after they had suggested taking them as carry-ons from Sydney to Brisbane because there is no liquid limit for domestic flights; and after we did it twice more without incident from Brisbane to Sydney and then from Sydney to Adelaide.
Now we were being told to put it in fucking checked luggage! And that was what started all this, getting pulled off our initially booked flight from Sydney to Brisbane after the luggage was scanned.
People were so jovial about it all when we took them through security at the other airports, when the guy this time first said it wasn’t permitted, Shobhit literally laughed because he assumed the man was joking. Nope: two more men even came to confer and they all agreed. They suggested we go talk to the airline.
Fuck that. The vodka canister was now empty and we had maybe four shots worth left of the tequila. Having no desire to deal with the luggage scan issue again, we told them to just throw them both away. We can just buy some more liquor when we’re back in Sydney if we need to.
I’m just annoyed by the inconsistency between airports. Do they all have actually different rules? Are some of the agents just incompetent? Does Australia’s left hand just not know what the right is doing?
One lesson learned: never take anything that even appears flammable on any flight ever. https://t.co/9G59IzYyfy
Sat, 18:17: And we thought the hotel in Adelaide was great! This one has 28 floors starting one up from the ground level, which means although we’re on floor 14, to my way of thinking we’re on the 15th floor—basically the same height we were at in Adelaide. We are delighted by the view, even though nearby buildings obscure any view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, which is quite close; we can see the road that ramps up to it. Furthermore the hotel room is fabulous, with a full kitchen even better than the last one; another table to dine at on an open air balcony; with laundry yet again in a bathroom that finally includes a shower stall *and* a bathtub. We could hardly have asked for better. https://t.co/XG4ZPnhF1t
