Yesterday I took myself to see
Joyland at the Uptown theater after work. It was excellent, a melancholy tale about a Pakistani man infatuated with the trans woman dancer for whom he has been hired to dance backup. I have it an A-minus, which this early in the year kind of puts it at 50/50 chance of winding up on my top 10 at the end of the year.
After a burst of more obscure and indie films I'll be seeing coming up at the Seattle International Film Festival—the first of which is this Friday—the onset of summer should bring in some hopefully more fun, bigger blockbusters I am actually looking forward to. Admittedly they do involve sequels, but they're still a huge step up from the endless medicrity that are Marvel movies. Just this morning I emailed Alexia about both
India Jones and the Dial of Destiny (opening June 30) and
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (opening July 14).
I have a rare evening at home with no obligations tonight. Tomorrow, Shobhit and I are going to a wine tasting at Total Wine & More where he works. Friday is my first of six SIFF movies; Saturday I have Happy Hour with Laney; Sunday is back to Cal Anderson Park for campaigning with Shobhit before my second SIFF movie that evening; then a movie in regular release on Monday. Tuesday is the 43rd Democrats monthly meeting which I have made myself available for, and Wednesday is Action Movie Night at the Braeburn Condos theater—my choice! Thursday is SIFF movie #3; Friday next week SIFF movie #4; Saturday th 20th SIFF movie #5. Sunday the 21st is back to the park with Shobhit before another Happy Hour with Laney.
I have a number of things planned the following week, but it's nothing like the nuts schedule I have next week. Tonight is literally the last night I have nothing planned until Wednesday, May 24, which is a solid two weeks from now! Yeesh.
I only have myself to blame!

Anyway, I made the conscious choice not to ride my bike yesterday, even though the weather was perfectly good for it, so I could spend some time reading my library book. I caught the #8 bus home after that, as the stop is right up the block from the Uptown Theater.
Once I got home, I spent roughly an hour on my review. I have mixed feelings about how well written the review is itself, but, whatever. Typically when that happens I re-read it some time later and find that it's perfectly good.
We then watched the penultimate episode of
The Power on Prime Video, which, honestly, I thought was the weakest of the season by every metric. We'll see how the finale goes, which I'm sure we'll watch tonight.
I didn't ride my bike today either, even though it's an even better day for it, for the same reason. I need to get this book finished so I can return it and end the suspension of my library account. We have serious summer weather headed for us this weekend, with highs expected in the mid- to upper-eighties Sunday and Monday. My weather app shows a high of 80° on Saturda and 83° on Tuesday. The National Weather Service is always a bit more modest (and statistically more accurate), and they're predicting 81° on Saturday and 84° on Sunday. And, fuck me, they're predicting 89° on Monday! Let's just hope they're wrong.
