making the best of it

I just realized that Pride Sunday this year was only one day off from the earliest in June it could ever be—it's always on the last Sunday of June, which means the earliest that could ever happen is June 24. This year it was on June 25. "Pride Month" is continuing another five days after that.

If not for next year being a Leap Year, we'd have Pride on June 24 next year. That's getting skipped in 2024 though due to Leap Year, shifting it right over to having Pride be the latest it can ever be: Sunday, Jun 30.

We last had Pride on June 24 in 2018.

It feels somewhat like a relief to have all these major plans for June 2023 over with. I actually have a ton already planned in July, but none of it's as major as something like Pride Weekend, or our anniversary weekend or any trips. It's mostly movies and movie nights and Happy Hours, plus the Madonna concert the 19th, the same day we're having a Merchandising Department outing at work, all of us going out to Justine's farm on Whidbey Island. Oh, and I'm tagging along on a Wilcox Farm tour at work on the 27th. No overnight trips anywhere next month, though.

That immediately changes once August gets here, though: I fly out to the Twin Cities for the Co+nvergence conference on August 1. That's also the day of the primary election, and it's unfortunate I can't be here to be with Shobhit when the primary winners are announced.

It's now very much up in the air whether Shobhit will come fly out to spend that next weekend with me in Minneapolis. I'd say he's actually leaning away from it. It's not my preference, but I can live with it. Shobhit has suggested I have Laney come out with me instead. I don't think she has any interest in getting on any airplanes, nor am I certain she could do all the walking I'll want to do. I have a feeling that, if Shobhit doesn't come out, I'll just be there for the weekend on my own. I can make that work. Although it did just occur to me to see if Jennifer would be at all interested. She and I haven't taken a trip together anywhere since 2013. Unlike when she was with Eric, though, now she and Matthew always do everything together, which would necessitate them getting a separate hotel room rather than sharing with the one I already booked. I suppose it couldn't hurt to ask her though.

Anyway, I took myself to a movie right after work yesterday, easily one of the best of the year: Past Lives, a truly fantastic love story with such an enduring effect that I almost started crying thinking about it on my bike ride home from the SIFF Cinema Uptown on Lower Queen Anne afterward.

I was asked at work last week what is the best movie I've seen so far this year, and I cited A Thousand and One, which I saw in early April. It's still the only movie so far this year that I've given a solid A. I've given six A-minuses, though, including for Past Lives.

Shobhit was at a candidate event he didn't need me at, which left me enough time to write out my rather long review, which kind of flowed out of me. By the time Shobhit got home, it was around 9:30, and I was just catching up on videos by a YouTube channel I really like. It was too late then to catch up on any TV. I'm not sure when we'll next have the time for that. Thursday, it looks like. I was too tired by that time last night and I went to bed.
