It's been three years now.
Time has made it ... different, if not better. I still get triggered every once in a while, particularly by sad scenes in movie or TV about the loss of a parent. Sometimes just by coming across an unexpected photo or reference to her, something that jogs a vivid memory.
The way I characterized it that day, in this post, remains strikingly accurate: the world is a distinctly different place since my mother died. The deeply complicated nature of my relationship with her had no effect on that fact. Nothing underscores the integral nature of how your parents inform your experience of reality like their passing does.
