My Threads

  • Sun, 09:31: Shobhit and I went out dancing last night, for the first time in *five years*, and no disrespect to Saint Paul, where I really did have a great time, but downtown Minneapolis is a happening place in a way downtown Saint Paul absolutely is not. Hell, the two gay clubs we went to impressed me more than any I’ve gone to in downtown or even Capitol Hill in Seattle—Gay 90s was absolutely my favorite, in spite of its huge percentage of cisgender straight people in the crowd, including multiple bachelorette parties.

The place is huge, with different rooms of different size with different vibes and different music—upstairs with one of the best drag shows I’ve ever seen, with drag queens who clearly have a sense of and appreciation for classic camp, which I love. (A couple of them were way better than the one in the video I took, with spectacular lip syncs of both Lady Gaga and—my favorite from the evening—Kesha.) I really, really had a great time there.

We also went to Saloon, though, which had better music, the crowd was *much* gayer, and the gogo boys, much like I had noticed at the strip club in Portland, were delightfully varied in body type. (I’m sure you’ll be relieved to learn that my favorite body type was well represented.)

Only complaint: Shobhit’s *one shot* of Jäegermeister at Gay 90s cost ten bucks! Or are we just becoming like the old geezers who complain that gas used to cost a quarter? Pretty soon we’ll be stepping out onto the dance floor with walkers on tennis balls.

P.S. We also walked past the club where Prince apparently first became famous, only a block away from which was a great wall mural of him. https://t.co/AWSXlc8EAK
