I took myself to a movie at SIFF Cinema at the Uptown right after work yesterday, called
Fremont, and I rather enjoyed it. Or at least, I finally decided I did once it ended.
As opposed to the neighborhood in Seattle, the film is named after the suburban city in the Bay Area, located just north of San Jose. I don't believe I have ever been there. (I have been to San Francisco of course; and to Oakland; and to San Jose. I don't think I've been to any other Bay Area cities." I did learn after doing light online research after seeing the film, though, that Fremont, CA has the largest Afghan population in the U.S. And
Fremont is about a young woman Afghan immigrant, in the U.S. shortly after the U.S. pulled all military out of the contry.
The film is much more lighthearted than that all makes it sound. It has an odd sensibility, but it eventually won me over.
The showtime was at 4:30, which worked very well for me. I left work 15 minutes early to bike over there, and at a brisk 91-minute runtime, it was all of about 6:00 by the time it let out. I rode my bike home and was there by 6:30, all after having gone to watch an entire movie in a theater.

Shobhit was just starting to make sambar when I got home. I helped with chopping just a few things (little potatoes from his p-patch plot, ginger, onions) before I then went to the bedroom to spend roughly an hour working on my movie review.
This was my first review since September 8. Ten days between movies. Even with major release delays due to the strikes in Hollywood, we're finally getting into the time of year when there should be enough releases to prevent that long a break through the new year, but we'll see. I'm likely to see my next movie on Thursday; after that on Monday; another on Thursday next week. None of them are likely to blow me away, but at least the schedule is picking up. I'm so glad we're shifting into the fall, at least when it comes to film release schedules.
I posted the review, and Shobhit had also made dosas. It was a very tasty dinner, which we ate while watching a couple episodes of season two of
The Righteous Gemstones.
