Cool things I learned today on a guided architecture tour through downtown Seattle:
*The Amazon Spheres are comprised of 2,643 panes of glass
*Many downtown store windows are covered in a protective plastic coating, much like the plastic covering on my iPhone screen, and you can even see its edges if you look close or feel with your fingertips
*The Westin is the only Seattle hotel equipped with Presidential security
*The second level of the Rainier Square Tower lobby, which was just empty space the last time I went up there, now has a nice coffee shop and a new art installation off in a corner
*Now that all of the construction is done, there’s a fantastic public terrace two levels up from the street between all three of the buildings on that block
*There’s another great public terrace I never noticed, between 901 Fifth Avenue and the Fifth & Madison buildings
*If you see a white dot on a building’s window, that’s an indication to the fire department that it’s the easiest window to break through
*The new glass blocks embedded in the cantilevered sidewalk above our new seawall were put in to assist migrating juvenile salmon, the light making it easier for them to see to eat
