At Shobhit's request, I went straight from work to Total Wine to meet him at 5:00 yesterday, so we could head up to a PCC and do some coupon shopping. After that we went to the Shoreline Costco, and after that we stopped at the QFC at Broadway Market. By the time we were done with our grocery shopping errands, three hours had passed.
Marie in IT had scheduled a Teams meeting from 4:00 to 4:30. Gabby, ever the courteous one—far more than necessary, even, when it comes to stuff like this—even messaged me to make sure it was okay and ask if I wanted to reschedule. I told her it was fine. I even said I appreciate her looking out for me here but she didn't need to worry about it as a rule: I sometimes leave early to catch a movie, after all. (I did not mention I actually left work early four out of the five days last week. Granted one of those we all did, when the entire Merchandising Department went to the Seattle Art Museum.) Even after telling her that, at 4:22 she was like,
Now go home! (She cracked me up when she followed it up with—because I had already told her this was my plan for the evening—
and go use those coupons!)
We stopped at the Greenlake Aurora store first, but when we saw that they do not carry my Deep Indian Kitchen naan pizzas, we turned right around and went over to Greenlake Village instead. They do have the pizzas. I thought Ballard did not, but I checked our system today and Ballard is one of eight stores that do. Fremont also carries them.
Anyway! I have several left, of a whole bunch, of free Deep Indian Kitchen product coupons the broker sent me. The coupon print says there is a limit of one per transaction, so Shobhit and I work the angles by splitting our groceries in two and making them two transactions.
We did the same with the first of four weekly coupons we have in December: two of them are $10 off $20 and two of them are $15 off $30. A whole bunch were left out for us to take at the office and I grabbed a handful. This week is a $10 off $20 week, which we also used two of by splitting our groceries into two transactions.
I also still had most of the value left of the holiday gift card PCC gave us this year. It was only worth $25, and at the risk of sounding like an ingrate, that kind of made me wonder why they bothered at all. In past years they have been double that; some years ago I think they've even been as high as $100. We do have a lot more employees now than we did many years ago, I guess.
Every dollar counts, though! After we were done at Greenlake Village, I actually had to text Gabby:
We did two separate transactions with $10 off $20 coupons, final totals $10.63 and $11.93 respectively—including several manufacture coupons a broker sent me—and I was able to cover both with my gift card. Our cashier at GV was very impressed lol
She replied:
That's extreme couponing!! Nice!!!
This was doubly amusing because, while our cashier was dealing with all our coupons, she chatted with the bagger about how an ex roommate was an "extreme couponer" and this resulted in tons of stuff in storage at their place that they either never used or took ages to work through. I think one of them was some brand of soap. Irish Spring, maybe?
I even offered a preamble when we got to the register, knowing our transactions would be way too complicated for self-checkout: "I'm going to apologize in advance, because you're going to be dealing with several manufacture coupons, and it's going to get complicated." I pointed to the free Nuts for Cheese product coupon and added, "And that one is going to give you trouble."
Of course, the one time I get that shpiel out ahead of time, we finally get a cashier two knew what the hell she was doing. She did have to do a couple of extra scans on that Nuts for Cheese coupon but she got it done more quickly than any of the other cashiers have. And now I'm out of the Nuts for Cheese coupons anyway. And Gomacro Bar coupons. I still have several of the Deep Indian Kitchen coupons, though—five, I think. I had really impressed upon the broker how much I love the eggplant flavor of those frozen naan pizzas, of which there are now four in our freezer. I am likely to burn through a lot of them while Shobhit is in India.

Shobhit kept bringing up the idea of stopping somewhere for dessert just so he could get a Social Review point. He considered going into the Starbucks in the parking lot at the Shoreline Costco, but we never did. It's just as well; we brought home tons of eggnog from QFC anyway. There was no need to go out for dessert.
Normally I actively avoid buying eggnog, because then I stick an IV in my arm and mainline it. There was a guy hunched on the ground next to the garbage can at the bus stop on Broadway and Pine this morning, half a pant leg pulled up, compulsively scratching his bare flesh. I thought,
That's me with eggnog.
I am happy to report that I only had one cup of it last night. With two shots of rum in it. It was cinnamon flavored eggnog and it was delicious.
Still, I we came home with a cumulative two gallons of eggnog. Just what I need! Normally I am also very brand loyal to Darigold eggnog, and this was just Kroger brand—but how could I resist, when QFC had offered half gallons for
ninety nine cents (regular price $4.29) as part of a "12 days of coupons" member promotion? I got one half-gallon of regular; two half-gallons of pumpkin; and one half-gallon of cinnamon (a flavor I figured would go very well with spiced rum, and it does!).
I had this with my dinner, which, even though we still have plenty leftover of the potato paneer dish Shobhit made the other day, we decided to make veggie burgers. We had portobello mushrooms that were about to go bad, and Shobhit had the great idea of putting them on burgers. I must say, it did make for a very delicious burger, and I hadn't had a veggie burger for dinner at home in a while.
We ate while watching the second episode of
Black Doves on Netflix. After that I helped Shobhit run some lines for an audition he has today, and then I went to bed.
