Shobhit has landed in Doha, Qatar, where he has a layover of just under nine hours on his way to Delhi, and where is sister also happens to live. He'll have a 13-hour layover on his way back, on January 18 (my time, anyway). He texted me this morning at 6:44 that he had touched down. His flight left yesterday at 4:05 p.m. Pacific Time. It was a fourteen-and-a-half-hour flight. He'll be spending some time with his sister. As I post this today, it will be about 11:30 p.m. local time in Doha.
It was actually kind of nice having the time to
post about Christmas last night, when it was actually still Christmas. When was the last time I managed that? Last year I posted at 12:23 p.m. the day after Christmas. I would have been at work. I posted the day after Christmas in 2022 as well, although that would have been easier as it was a Monday and thus I had the day off, Christmas Day "observed." I didn't post about "Christmas Weekend" in 2021 until December 27, again a Monday—at 12:25 p.m., again when I was at work. Same deal on December 26, 2020, although that year it was a Saturday, so even the fact that I was working home then didn't make any difference. I posted on December 26 every year prior to that since 2009, when I posted on December 27; aha, there it is! I posted on December 25, at 8:54 p.m., on 2008—although all that was, was a link to the Flickr photo album without a proper Christmas
journal post at all, relying solely on photo captions. The last time I actually wrote a full post on Christmas Day (posting then at 11:29 p.m.) was on December 25, 2002. Twenty-two years ago! Two years before Shobhit and I met.
I still need to finish up and send out my "Christmas in the Northwest (PART TWO)" email, however. I'm not sure when I'll have time for that, and it may not be until this weekend, but we'll see what I can manage before then. Last year I actually did send
that out on Christmas Day. I guess I just didn't think of it as being as urgent this year. I did a single email for "Christmas in the Northwest 2022" that year, and that wasn't sent out until December 26.

Anyway! What else can I tell you? I already told you all about Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and I spent all my time after getting home from Olympia last night working on that.
Shobhit keeps texting me to be careful in the expected weather, both yesterday and today, and so far it's been kind of a big nothing. No heavy rain last night; in fact I used my windshield wipers maybe a cumulative 10 minutes the whole 65-minute drive home, and even then on the least-frequent setting. Coming to work this morning it was raining, but not super heavily. My long-lasting umbrella did die last week so I had to use the backup one with nice red and black colors but it's not quite as big; I need to buy a new one.
The one thing that was super annoying this morning was the #12 that was supposed to come at 6:55 was not in service. What the shit? I walked down to Summit Avenue just to kill time, where I actually caught the next bus to pass my building. I managed to transfer to another bus in just a couple of minutes downtown, though, instead of walking the rest of the way as usual, and I got to work right on time, so it was fine.
I have plenty to do but not too much occurred while I was out to make it feel all that overwhelming. Life remains pretty good, honestly.
As I write this the rain is gone and the sun is out, incidentally.
