the evening Host

Last night was Action Movie Night at the Braeburn Condos theater. Shobhit had to work so he didn't make it this time, which is too bad because I think he would have enjoyed the movie: Bong Joon Ho's 2006 answer to Godzilla, The Host. It was indeed one of the better choices they've had in a while, I think.

It was a bit leaner than usual this time around. The newer people, Britne and Daniel, both didn't make it this week. Neither did Shobhit, or Joe or Sean. We still had seven present, though: Tony, Jake, Ben, Ryan, Chris G and Chris B, and myself.

At first I was going to take the trains home from work to save some time, but then I remembered I wouldn't have to spend any time preparing food this time: Shobhit made a gargantuan batch of salad before he left for work. It was in the largest of the mixing bowls we got in the White Elephant gift exchange on Christmas, in the refrigerator. The salad was super packed in tight, still didn't have the dry toppings (from the Costco packet used as a base, but with tons more vegetables Shobhit added), and still the lid could not quite fit.

He asked me to save "20%" of it for home use. I barely managed that and put it in the second-largest of the mixing bowls. With the salad no longer so packed in, it really filled up both bowls. When I took it downstairs to the community kitchen that is just outside the theater, I had by far the most of it. I think maybe three others gave themselves a relatively small serving.

Chris G arrived last, with a large pizza in hand. He more than anyone tends to go out of his way to get vegetarian pizzas so Shobhit and I can eat them. He half-jokingly tried to hand me the whole box. It was a veggie pizza, and holy fuck it was delicious. Later there were only two slices left, and the slices were all pretty big. I still had a second slice, even though one had been more than enough. Then two others cut the last slice in half and split it.

I had way too many junk food samples from work yesterday even before this. I have a problem.

The movie ended shortly after 9:00. A whole lot of the salad was left. We'll probably be having it for dinner both tonight and tomorrow night. At least, once I got back upstairs, enough of the large mixing bowl had been consumed that I could recombine it all into the large bowl. I finished washing dishes when Shobhit returned from work. Then, it was time for me to get ready for bed.

That's about all there is to tell today. I've got a lot on my personal and social calendar, as always. Movie tonight, but some unusual outings over the weeked: tomorrow night, I finally get to see Amy Miller live again at Laughts Comedy Club in the U District, and I'm going with Alexia. This will be my third time seeing Amy Miller, all at the same club, but the last two times were a year apart in 2018 and 2019. I had a plan to go a third time in . . . March 2020. So, that never happened.

Saturday Shobhit and I are going to a SAG Awards watch party, so I'm pretty excited about that.

Then on Sunday, back to more typical activities: Laney and I will return to the Braeburn Condos theater to rewatch Dune Part One. She and I aren't scheduled to see Dune Part Two until Wednesday, March 13. By that time, it will be my third time seeing it. I noted at Action Movie Night last night that I already have scheduled dates to see that movie three times. The discussion evolved into how much Jake recommends I read the novel, which I am increasingly becoming interested in doing.
