Birth Week Islands #6 and #7! Foster Island and Marsh Island
Area: 33 acres and 4 acres, respectively
Population: 0
Distinctions: Both islands, now part of Seattle’s Washington Park Arboretum, were created in 1916, when Lake Washington’s level was lowered about 9 feet, due to the creation of the Chittenden Locks in Ballard. Although the water level is back up a bit these days—submerged trails on both sides are preventing access to Marsh Island. ☹️ I’ll have to come back again later in the year to complete the island coverage.

Birth Week Island #8! Braeburn Condos Community Kitchen Island
Area: 20 square feet
Population: 10, tonight
Distinction: Smallest island featured during Birth Week 2024. Also: in a fantastic bit of serendipity, it was my movie choice for Action Movie Night this week! I settled on a movie that fit the theme.

I haven’t been super online this week due to my Birth Week activities so I just logged on and discovered I missed an apparent explosion of discourse about … men and bears??
I trust that all the women chiming in are right but also: I don’t have any idea what’s happening.
This has been my contribution to the discourse. You’re welcome!
