Shobhit had a TPS board Zoom call at 5:30 yesterday, so: no meeting me at the office to walk home together. I walked on my own. It was fucking cold.
I wanted something warm to drink, so I made chai as soon as I got home. Shobhit finished his call while I did that, then we made veggie burgers for dinner. We're burning through sample veggie burger patties I brought home from work, which he probably likes but which I'm not a huge fan of because they get too squishy and fall apart.
I ordered a week trial subscription to BritBox through Amazon the other day, just so we could watch the first three episodes of
As Time Goes By—the British sitcom that airs on PBS most Saturday evenings, two episodes between 8:00 and 9:00 p.m. I had been wanting to wait until the series started over from the beginning again, so we could watch it all the way through once more, and I noticed last Saturday it was season one, episodes two and three—but we missed them. I had Shobhit program the DVR to record them from now on, and did the trial subscription so we could catch up on the three episodes we'd missed.
We did that already the other day. And having the series to watch on Saturdays from here on out (even though we've already watched nearly the entire series this way once before, but with a few weeks we missed), I figured last night we should take advantage of the trial subscription and find some other show to check out. I googled "Best shows on Britbox" and settled on a show from 2009-2013 called
Being Human, about two guys who are a vampire and a werewolf who discover the house they've moved into as roommates also has a woman there who is a ghost. It's pretty good, and we watched three episodes.
The trial subscriptio ends in five days, so we clearly won't get through all five seasons. I suppose that's fine.

The other news today is, of course: more snow.
What's already happened and what's expected to happen is already a bit unexpected. The low last night was in the twenties, and when I checked the forecast before bed, it showed only a 30% chance of snow at, like, 2 a.m. Then, shortly after I got out of bed this morning, Shobhit had gotten up briefly and then he called to me: "There's a lot of snow outside."
Hold on: what?
"A lot" is relative, mind you. I should have measured it to get specific but I didn't have the time or the wherewithal. I would guess somewhere between an inch and an inch and a half, maybe?
And the forecast keeps changing. This morning it showed a forecast high of 37°, with show starting at about noon and lasting through the evening, even when it was supposed to be 37°, which I found odd. This forecast has already changed,
Relying on public transit is alwaysd a crapshoot when there's snow. There were no reroute notices for the two buses that stop at my building, but their expected arrival times changed in real time as I looked at the One Bus Away app when I left this morning, moving from extimated arrival times to only scheduled arrival times. I've been burned by this before, so I thought, fuck it: I'm just going to walk down to and then through Cal Anderson Park to catch the Light Rail, which is unaffected by snow. Lucky me, the train came only three minutes after I got down to the platform.
I took a few photos of the snow in the park. It was very pretty, and largely undisturbed, albeit with footsteps along the footpaths that seemed like a lot more people than I would have expected had already walked through. When I got out of Westlake Station downtown, there was some snow here and there but the streets were basically clear. I wore leather boots not especially great for walking but were the best I had available for keeping out anything wet (they are the same boots I am wearing in
this photo, from when Shobhit and I took his cousin Anubhab to see his first snow, at Snoqualmie Pass in late November 2018), so I did not really want to walk the mile left to get to the office. I walked down to 3rd & Pike and managed to hop on a #13 to 1st & Denny, so really my commute this morning went rather well. We'll see how it is going home.
Wednesdays are usually when Merchandising is asked to come into the office, but a few people had too much snow where they live and so they worked from home. This included Gabby, the only one on our team besides Amy (who is on PTO) who did not make it in: Brandy and Cathryn are both here, and to my surprise, they both said there was very little in the way of snow where they live—in Bonny Lake and Bainbridge Island, respectively. It seems Capitol Hill got more snow than most places last night. Anyway, the three of us went into the medium-sized conference room next to my desk for our usual weekly team meeting this morning, with only Gabby, who runs the meetings, patching in on Teams.
Both Noah and Frank made it in today as well. It sounds like there was a bit of snow in Wallingford and a fair amount in Lake City, though I don't know precisely how either compared to Capitol Hill.
I was kind of looking forward to seeing more snow happen today, honestly. But now the forecast is showing the rain turning to snow between 2:00 and 3:00, so, I guess we'll see. As I write this, it's shifted to "drizzle." Meh. I'm glad I brought my umbrella either way.
Also, the reason I'm posting so much later than normal: the biweekly meeting for the Office Relocation Team that I am on is scheduled, very frustratingly, from noon to 1 p.m. every other Wednesday. I came back to my desk and totally forgot to post this—until Shobhit texted me to ask if there was no post today. This is why it finally occurred to me the other day to add "lunch" between noon and 12:30 every other day on my Outlook calendar, so no one can send me meeting invites that conflict with that anymore. Leave me alone at lunchtime dammit!
