Last night was Action Movie Night, and for Daniel's second choice, a lower number of attendance than we've had in months: just seven. We've been barely more than that—eight—twice last month alone, but we haven't been down to seven in a solid year (February 21, 2024 to be exact—and Shobhit didn't even make it to that one due to a work shift). Anyway, those in attendance last night were Tony, Jake, Ben, Chris G, Daniel, Shobhit, and myself.
My longstanding ambivalence about Daniel notwithstanding, he clearly understands how to make great movie choices for Action Movie Night: his first choice, last August, was
Prey, the
Predator franchise prequel that is arguably the best
Predator movie ever made. Last night he chose
Godzilla Minus One.
I had already seen it twice, and the last time I saw it was last November when it got a theatrical re-release and I convinced Laney to go see it with me. That had been 11 months after I first saw it, which was plenty of time; this time it had only been four months since I last watched it, which was a little soon. But, I'm still a big advocate for that movie (a few nitpicks notwithstanding) and have to admit that Daniel made a great choice. I even saw Tony take a couple photos of the screen during the movie.
When the movie ended and we all filed out into the community kitchen, Jake immediately said that for some reason he just didn't like that movie. He had also spoken at length before the movie about how much he loved
Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension, though, so that kind of tells you all you need to know.

Speaking of differing film opinions, Ben came in yesterday telling me, "I found an Oscar movie I loved!" And then he cited
Flow, which truly delighted me. I immediately told him it was on my top 10 for the year, and I was so happy it won the Best Animated Feature Oscar. Laney and I are watching it again two weekends from now, actually. I deeply, deeply loved that movie.
Shobhit and I brought a pasta dish for the pre-movie potluck. (No one else in the group ever calls it a potluck, by the way. But that's what it is, althogh sometimes people are allowed to bring beer or another beverage instead of food.) It was farfalle, with a pasta sauce Shobhit had prepared before I even got home, adding the mushroom crumble I suggested, one of the many meat alternative samples I brought home from work a couple of weeks ago. We also baked a pre-buttered and seasoned garlic bread we got on sale at QFC. The bread got easily wiped out and about half the pasta got eaten. So that'll be dinner tonight.
Daniel brought frozen stir fried rice, which he actually cooked right on the Community Kitchen stove. I had to show him how to turn on the burner. It was surprisingly tasty. All the other stuff had meat: the pizza Tony brought; and the cream cheese and crackers with salmon that Chris brought. Shobhit wuoldn't touch the cream cheese being on the same plate as the salmon, but I happily got a fresh knife to cut from the opposite side of the block of cream cheese, and ate a bit too much of it with the crackers.
