There's not much to share about last night, except that Laney and I went to see The Assessment. It was very provocative, but also . . . fine.

The showtimes were not the greatest. We could see it at 3:20, which was way too early, or we could see it at 7:20, which was later than ideal but I could make it work. I did a thing I rarely do anymore and just wrote the review after I got to work this morning. Don't tell anybody!

We had originally planned to see it Saturday night, which would have made things easier for me as I didn't need to be in bed as early that night, but that was before I was reminded of the watch party Shobhit and I were going to in Lacey that evening.

Laney and I kept marveling at the number of people who came into the theater. We really expected that, because it was a Monday and a movie we barely heard of—and we had not seen the trailer at a single one of the many other movies we have gone to—maybe we'd be the only ones in the theater. We got there about ten minutes early, and only one other person was there yet. We kind of thought: that tracks.

But, other people kept coming in. Mind you, it was still sparsely attended: there might have been 20 people total. My only point is that we are used to there being around five other people at most. It finally occurred to me that this was probably normal, even on a Monday, just by virtue of it being a 7:20pm showing. Laney and I usually go to showtimes anywhere from 4:30 to 5:30, and most other people are still at work or commuting at that time. I mentioned this to Laney, after several minutes of being like "Oh my god! More people coming in!" And then she was kind of like, "Oh. Right."

The night before, Shobhit must have mentioned three times that this showtime was going to mean I would not get home until around 10:00. Yeah. I get it! I knew that would be the case, and that I would have no time to write the review before going to bed. Hence my having written it this morning.

The later showtime gave me time to walk home first after work. Shobhit had an audition in Pioneer Square at 5:30, and utterly by chance, he ran into me at the north end of Pike Place Market. He was taking a roundabout walk down there in order to get his daily steps in. I was reading God Emperor of Dune while walking, so I didn't even notice him until I was inches away and he said, "Boo!" I asked how far away he had seen me coming and he said, "A couple of blocks."

So, I walked with him through the Market, a block out of my way further than Pine down to Pike, and then we parted ways as Shobhit turned south toward Pioneer Square at 1st Avenue. I walked the rest of the way home and had some of the asparagus dish Shobhit had made for dinner, with a baked naan.

After his audition, Shobhit took a RapidRide G line bus home, which is the only reason he barely got back before I left again. I met up with Laney at Broadway and Pine at 6:45, and we walked the rest of the way downtown together.

And that concludes my full report on my Monday evening.
