flightless birds and fickle cats
Yesterday after work I saw my third movie this week, the third I had seen in the space of four days, and the second in as many days . . . are you following this? Anyway I saw Penguins, a Disneynature documentary, about . . . you'll never guess what! There were orca whales, elephant seals and leopard seals in it! Also a species of bird I can't remember. I mean, besides actual penguins. I do remember the penguins. This other bird could actually fly and was identified as "a penguin predator," stealing the eggs of distracted penguin parents and sometimes attacking the weakest of penguin chicks.
And still, it was a very family-friendly film, an extremely rare example of a theatrical release in the 21st century that's rated G. I was honestly surprised it was rated G, as I could see a lot of what happened in it upsetting very small children. There's nothing explicit or gory in it, but it does get somewhat surprisingly frank about the perils of Adélie penguin life. It has a brisk run time of only 76 minutes so it's tightly edited and quite engaging from beginning to end. B+ movie, I recommend it! And I was only one of like three people in the screening I attended which was too bad. Granted, I did go on a weekday at 5:10 pm.
Yesterday brought a bit more rain so I did not bike to work. I walked from work to Pacific Place, then walked the rest of the way home afterward. I had a veggie chicken patty sandwich using a Costco cheese bagel, which was quite tasty I must say, and then I made chai, with a cup left for Shobhit to reheat in the microwave. I then wrote my movie review and it was soon time to get ready for bed after that.
I was in bed but not quite yet asleep when Shobhit got home from work, so I heard him come in the door at around 10:30 pm. I had felt like I was maybe having trouble getting to sleep, an issue I had not had in a long time, and even Guru, who had been laying on the bed with me, shot off the bed to go out and greet him (which, honestly, was kind of cute). I had no sooner thought about how long it might still take me to get to sleep, though, that . . . I guess I fell asleep, because I can't remember anything after that.
I do remember that Shanti had also been laying on the bed but when Shobhit came in the door, unlike Guru, she couldn't be bothered to give a shit.
One or the other of them could give a puke, though, apparently. I cleaned up puke twice at home last night and then again just outside the bedroom door this morning. Fun!
I had thought about going to Steamworks this evening, or even bailing on that idea to go to yet another movie, but I have finally settled on spending the evening at home, even though Shobhit is working late again. We are getting up really early tomorrow to head up to Anacortes for the ferry to San Juan Island, and I need time this evening to prepare for that. I'm going to get one of the coolers from the storage space in the garage, and assemble what's needed to make sandwiches for lunch while we're on the island. That should save us a bit of money. Hmm, I might even make chai to put in a thermos.
