all the motion pictures, thus far
So I'm here at home alone on a late Sunday afternoon, thinking about how little chance there is I'll be able to post anything to by blod during the six days I'll be out of town with Danielle. I may not even be able to post the morning Tweet digests, which are only easily done on a home desktop computer. We'll see about that part.
In any case, I don't work tomorrow, really only because it's Memorial Day; I don't actually leave for my trip until Tuesday morning. But, if I don't post now, I might forget to post what all I've done the past two days, and we can't have that!
It's kind of just all movies, all the time this weekend. We largely have the Seattle International Film Festival to thank for that. Friday evening I went to the SIFF screening of Trixie Mattel: Moving Parts at the Egyptian Theatre, while Shobhit worked an evening shift. I liked it a lot, and you can just read the review to see why.
Speaking of which, I guess that's relevant here -- it's not like I haven't written anything I wrote that review after the movie Friday night; I also wrote a review yesterday, for my next SIFF screening, this one in the afternoon at the Uptown Theatre, Enormous: The Gorge Story. My reaction to that was basically "meh," my first such reaction to any SIFF film this year, which otherwise have been pretty consistently B+ content.
When I posted the link to that review on Twitter and Facebook, I considered making a joke about Enormous: The Gorge Story not being about my ass crack. I decided against it.
Anyway, yesterday Shobhit got off work at 8:00, by which time I had made both a dinner of uttapams (thick savory pancakes) with Indian meal packets from PCC, and nine banana bread muffins out of two ripened bananas. I had originally resisted the suggestion Shobhit made of doing that with the bananas, thinking there weren't enough bananas. But, it was easier than anticipated just to cut the ingredients in half in the recipe.
I added peanuts, and accidentally called 911 when I started breaking the peanuts with the back of my iPhone. I didn't even actually dial -- the phone just called it. What the hell? I guess I shouldn't abuse my iPhone. I hung up in a panic before anyone answered, but then they called back! It only came up as "Unknown" on my phone screen, so I didn't answer. Don't these people need the lines open for real emergencies? They left me a voice mail and texted me back, just suggesting I dial 911 if I was having an emergency. I was not, so I didn't.
I also watched most of a documentary on Hulu called 78/52: Hitchcock's Shower Scene. I had fifteen minutes of it left to watch when Sachin stopped by and so I stopped it, and will likely finish it once I've published this post. I came back to the bedroom to watch a few Trixie Mattel videos on YouTube before going to bed. I don't even know what time Sachin left or when Shobht finally came to bed. I slept pretty soundly most of the night.
Shobhit and I went out for brunch this morning, back to Maggie Bluffs where we had gone the second Saturday of my Birth Week, to use up the last $18 on the first of two $50 gift cards Dad and Sherri gave us for Christmas last year. With tip it went about $4.75 into the second card, the last $45 of which will now be saved for use during our anniversary weekend trip to Portland next month.
I literally realized just now, while I was writing this, that that was meant to be brunch, which means I really had no business eating lunch while watching the movies Laney came over to watch today. But, I did anyway. I'm thinking now maybe I just shouldn't have any dinner. I somehow just completely blocked it from my mind that I had just eaten breakfast tacos at 10 a.m. when I ate leftover magi noodles Shobhit had made, at about 1:00. Three hours later! I need to get my shit together.
Anyway, Laney came over at 11:00 this morning for a Coen Brothers double feature, of Blood Simple (which is exhilarating) and No Country for Old Men (which is excellent but just deeply bleak). In retrospect we probably should have watched those movies the other way around.
Laney also suggested I make popcorn, and so I did. And I drank chardonay. I have really consumed more than enough for one day.
No movies at the theatre today, though. I do have one to go see tomorrow, although that one's regular release and not SIFF. Still another review to write while Shobhit is at work, and then I get to packing. Tuesday morning I meet Danielle at SeaTac Airport shortly after 8 a.m., and we're off to Toronto after a layover in Vancouver B.C. I've never actually been to the Vancouver airport, come to think of it.
Two nights in Toronto. One night in Niagara Falls. Two nights in Syracuse, ulmimating in Danielle's friend Elise's wedding. We fly home via a layover in Philadelphia on Sunday, June 2 -- Mom's birthday. Oh shit, I need to make Mom a birthday card.
