Deaths on 9/11: ~3,000
U.S. COVID deaths (so far!) in 2020: 200,000.
Record DAILY U.S. COVID deaths (April 21): 2,748
I am not at all suggesting we should just forget 9/11. But, it was 19 years ago and we really do have far more immediate concerns in 2020. It remains astonishing to me how much of this country, right up to its very president, downplays the staggering amount of death, largely preventable, happening RIGHT NOW. (And that doesn't even account for the number of people not dying but getting horribly sick, or the even more staggering number of Americans grieving the deaths of loved ones.) *This* is where our focus and our resources should be right now.
"An American Failure," indeed.
